LESS IS MORE

During my visit with Jordan River, we were unsure of what to shoot as our second act (find the first set under her hashtag). Relying purely on my default settings, I suggested we just have her roll around my bed and strip, which thankfully she happily agreed to. Luckily, she had also brought a brand new pair of lingerie she hadn’t shot in yet, and even though I wasn’t particularly keen on it, I rolled with the punches. Of course, she looked incredible in the bra and underwear set, that was never a doubt. I’m just not big on lacy, padded lingerie.

Having recently changed my tiny bedroom around, I had been shooting there a lot, so I knew exactly how to place some small clip-on lights and what angles would be best to not show my old 1980s alarm clock and stacks of gallery prints that never sell.

She was a natural, stripping to the music she put on, knowing when to be slow and graceful and when to get down to business and take things off. It was still difficult to believe she had only been modeling for two years since she was so good at it, and I repeatedly praised her for ability to just be herself.

Eventually she began to strip off her bottoms, and as she turned her ass to me I continued to click away. I’ve been shooting vagina/labia/vulva/pussy photos (whatever you like to term them) only for the last year or so, since I started using Patreon, but I am still a bit nervous when a model says she feels comfortable with it. Since I’ve had models say they were comfortable being topless and then backing out of it months later, anything below the waist is even more sensitive and delicate to deal with, no pun intended. And in this case, we hadn’t even discussed it before shooting. After those first few shots, she looked over her shoulder at me and smiled, and all of a sudden I became an awkward 13 year old boy.

“Um…this is okay, right……that I’m….um…getting this angle…?” I stuttered out, showing her the back of the camera to show her exactly what I was capturing.

“Yeah, of course,” she said confidently, as if I had asked her if it was okay to change my lens.

And with that, we continued. Now fully nude, she flitted around on my soft blanket, commenting on how lush it truly was, and for a moment we were lost in a discussion of how much is too much to spend on a bedspread. These are the types of conversations models and photographer share all the time with nudity and lighting, and people not involved in such experiences may never fully understand how normal and almost boring the situations can be.

Finally, knowing we needed to head outside for our last set-up before she began her long four-hour drive to San Francisco, I had her pack up her things. “Put some clothes on!” I shouted at her sarcastically, as I often do with models who are nude in my home. “Geez, act a little decent, how gross of you!” It never fails to make them smile at my dorkiness.
