Non Canon Chapter 23: It wasn't my birthday!

This was an idea inspired by the French Revolution and the decimal time that they used in 1792. In practice, it was too complicated to use for this world. Maybe in another story on another world.

I'm no longer falling over when I’m walking or running which is wonderful. The bumps and bruises might heal quickly but they are still surprisingly painful. Where I’m currently falling miserably is in trying to understand their time system.

My sister Aleera seems to be quite enjoying my confusion in explaining this to me as I am normally very quick to understand and pick up new things.

Turns out my internal clock is wrong.

Turns out I am not yet 1.

Or at least I am or would be in my old world but not in this one.

The ceremony that I thought was my birthday was actually just a coincidence. A moment of synchronicity between the timetables of my relatives meant they could all get together to say hello and I could have my moment of choosing.

We have been spending more time visiting my grandparent's house recently and I have had more opportunities to look at the clock. It took me a while to notice but it made no sense whatsoever. Turns out in this world there are 100 seconds in a minute, 100 minutes in an hour, 10 hours in a day, 10 days in a week and 10 months in a year, 10 years in a decade, and a hundred in a century.

What does this mean? Well, this is where it gets complicated. I even finally remodeled my mind fortress just to get a blackboard to try and work this out. The day is the same length as my old worlds as far as I can tell but divided into ten. After a whole day trying to work it out I now have the following table on my blackboard inside my head.

This means that 1 week on this planet is actually 10 days.

So, if I think I am 1 year old 52 weeks = 365 days.

But here it is 1 week of 10 days.

10 weeks or rather 100 days makes 1 month and

10 months or rather 100 weeks makes 1 year.

So 1 year is 10 x 10 x 10 = 1000 days = 1 year.

This would be fantastic if my brain thought in 1s and 0s but currently is giving me enough of a headache I’m surprised I haven’t gained some sort of mind resistance skill.

Anyway, the point I’m trying to make is that when I thought I turned 1.

I actually only turned 0.365 of a year!

I still had 0.635 of the year to go or rather another year and a half of my old time.

Mindboggling!

There are some positives to this mind-bending mathematical problem.

1. I’m not actually 1 yet.

Probably why they were looking astounded by me singing myself happy birthday when it wasn’t actually my birthday. Might not have been the tune or my ability to sing it at all.

2. Once I get my head around this system it should be more straightforward.

Maybe?

3. When I turn 1 I will actually be over 2 and a half of old-world time.

4.  Good news I might actually still have time to get my Senses and Magic stat up to 100 before I turn 1.

Again maybe.

When I turn 5 is apparently when my status will officially unlock. Although looks like mine will be unlocking sooner than that according to my months left.

This is all so confusing!

Currently, it is the 10th minute of the 5th  hour of the 5th  day of the 9th week of the 3rd month of my first year of life.

God this is confusing.

It’s a blooming stardate! A sequence of numbers that in theory should be easier to understand but in practice . . . 

No wonder the French Revolution never managed to get it to stick when they tried to do it on my planet.

What happens to the seasons and other times of the year?

Does it take this planet 1000 days to orbit the sun?
