King of Games C71 Flaws
Added 2024-08-26 07:38:18 +0000 UTCAs the first day of beta testing came to a close, the 500 chosen testers were buzzing with excitement. Many found themselves struggling to readjust to reality after hours in the immersive world of Sword Art Online.
One tester, a college student named Ryu, sat at his desk. He was itching to share his experience on social media, to tell the world about the incredible adventure he'd just had. But the NDA loomed large in his mind.
"Man, this is killing me," he muttered, sighing. "I've got to tell someone about this."
He glanced at his phone, considering calling a friend, but stopped himself. Even that felt like it might be crossing a line.
With a sigh, Ryu looked at the NG1 headset sitting on his bed. A smile crept across his face as he made his decision.
"Well, if I can't talk about it..." he said, reaching for the headset, "I might as well experience more of it."
He settled back onto his bed and put on the NG1. The real world might not know about the wonders of Sword Art Online yet, but he was more than happy to keep exploring them on his own.
The headset hummed to life, and once again, Ryu found himself transported to a world of endless possibilities.

Several days into the beta test, the virtual world of Sword Art Online was buzzing with activity. Many testers had ventured beyond the tutorial town, making their way to the imposing floating structure known as Aincrad. The tower loomed in the distance, a constant reminder of the challenges and mysteries that awaited them.
Meanwhile, in the tutorial town, Phantom Kid and LunarEclipse remained, their determination to find bugs and glitches undiminished.
LunarEclipse sighed, wiping sweat from her brow after another failed attempt, "Most people would have given up by now."
Phantom Thief grinned. "Good thing we're not most people, eh?"
As they sat discussing their next move, Kaito noticed something odd about his inventory. "Hey, LunarEclipse, look at this," he said, opening his menu.
LunarEclipse leaned in. "What am I looking at?"
Kaito pointed to an item in his inventory - a simple wooden stick. "Watch closely when I equip and unequip this rapidly."
As he demonstrated, for a split second, the stick appeared in his hand before the equip animation played.
LunarEclipse's eyes widened. "It's like the game's struggling to keep up with the action!"
"Exactly," Kaito nodded. "It's not much, but it's the first inconsistency we've found in how we interact with this world."
This minor loophole in how player actions were processed could potentially lead to more significant discoveries.
"Let's test this with other items," LunarEclipse suggested. "Maybe we can find a way to exploit this lag between action and animation."
They set off to experiment further. They might not have cracked the game wide open, but they'd found a small imperfection in how players interacted with the world.

As Phantom Kid and LunarEclipse continued their experiments, LunarEclipse turned to her companion with curiosity. "How did you even notice this minor loophole in the first place?"
Phantom Kid leaned back, a thoughtful expression on his face. "Well, I've been observing everything closely since we got here. The world itself - the structures, the physics, the way light behaves, even the weather patterns - it's all incredibly well-made. There doesn't seem to be a single flaw."
He gestured to a nearby NPC. "Even the non-playable characters move and behave so naturally. But then I started paying attention to us, the players."
LunarEclipse nodded, encouraging him to continue.
"Our avatars, they're different somehow. They have these tiny inconsistencies, like the item equip lag we just saw. It's as if our bodies are somewhat... foreign to this world."
LunarEclipse's eyes lit up with realization. "Of course! Maybe the players aren't as integrated into the game world as the NPCs and other elements. Our bodies might be the weak link!"
Phantom Kid nodded enthusiastically. "Exactly! The game has to process our actions separately, which could lead to these small gaps we're seeing."
"This could be huge," LunarEclipse said, her mind racing with possibilities. "If we can find more of these player-specific quirks, we might be able to exploit them."
They brainstormed more ways to test their theory.

In the high-tech laboratory, Shinro and his team of scientists watched the screens intently, their focus on Phantom Kid and LunarEclipse's activities.
"Well, I'll be damned," one of the scientists muttered, stroking his chin. "They actually noticed the avatar inconsistencies."
Another scientist nodded, impressed. "It's a tiny flaw. I can't believe it didn't slip past them."
Dr. Agasa, a portly man with thick glasses, turned to Shinro with a concerned expression. "Suzuki-san, should we patch this immediately? We can't have players exploiting these flaws."
Shinro leaned back in his chair, a small smile playing on his lips. He shook his head slowly. "No, let's leave it for now."
The scientists exchanged surprised glances.
"But sir," Dr. Agasa protested, "if they find a way to exploit this..."
Shinro held up a hand, silencing the scientist. "The game isn't published yet, Dr. Agasa. This is exactly what beta testing is for." His eyes gleamed with interest as he watched Phantom Kid and LunarEclipse on the screen. "Let's see what else these two can discover. Their creativity might show us vulnerabilities we haven't even considered."
The scientists murmured in agreement, their initial concern giving way to curiosity.
"Besides," Shinro added, his tone lighthearted but with an underlying seriousness, "if two beta testers can find these flaws, imagine what thousands of players might uncover. Better to learn about these issues now, wouldn't you agree?"
The team nodded, before refocusing on their monitors.

Meanwhile, in the towering structure of Aincrad, Ryu was having the time of his life. He had made his way to the first floor, where he was currently engaged in combat with the local monsters.
"Take that!" Ryu shouted, his sword glowing as he activated a sword skill, slashing through a Frenzy Boar. The creature exploded into a shower of polygons, leaving behind a small collection of col and items.
Wiping sweat from his brow, Ryu grinned as he surveyed the grassy plains around him. In the distance, he could see more Frenzy Boars grazing, interspersed with the occasional Dire Wolf prowling the edges of the forest.
"Man, this is intense," he muttered to himself, checking his health bar. It was still in the green, but the last encounter had taken a chunk out of it. "Those Dire Wolves are no joke."
As he made his way towards a nearby hill, a flutter of movement caught his eye. A group of Windwasps emerged from a cluster of flowers, their wings buzzing menacingly.
Ryu's grin widened. "Alright, time for some target practice!"
He readied his sword, falling into a combat stance. The thrill of battle coursed through him, every encounter feeling as real and dangerous as if he were truly there. As he engaged the Windwasps, Ryu couldn't help but marvel at the intricate design of even these low-level monsters.
