Godfather System C147 Rivalries

A few days later, Lorenzo was in his study when Adam entered, a folder in hand.

"Boss, we've got word from England," Adam said, handing over the file.

Lorenzo opened it, his eyes scanning the contents. A smile played on his lips as he read the details of the Peaky Blinders' request for support against the Changretta family's encroachment into England's liquor trade.

"Well, well," Lorenzo mused, leaning back in his chair. "Looks like Tommy's finally swallowing his pride and asking for help."

Adam shifted uncomfortably. "There's more, boss. Our sources say the Corleones are fully backing Changretta."

Lorenzo's smile widened. "Of course they are. Michael's always had a soft spot for his Italian roots."

Helping the Peaky Blinders would undoubtedly ruffle Michael Corleone's feathers. The alliance between the Lupo and Corleone families was valuable, but not irreplaceable.

Lorenzo turned back to Adam, his decision made. "Alright, here's what we're going to do. We're not going to confront the Changrettas directly - that would be too obvious and will provoke Michael."

Adam nodded, ready to take notes.

"First, I want our liquor company in Chicago and New York to flood the market. Undercut Changretta's prices, offer better quality, whatever it takes. Make it look like simple business competition."

"Got it, boss. What about distribution?"

Lorenzo smiled. "Good thinking. Reach out to our friends in the Teamsters. I want Changretta's shipments to start experiencing... unfortunate delays. Nothing too obvious, mind you. Just enough to frustrate their customers."

"And what about our men inside Changretta's organization?"

Lorenzo's eyes narrowed as he considered his next move. "As for our men inside Changretta's organization, it's time to turn up the heat. Tell them to start testing the loyalty of Luca's trusted lieutenants. I want them to feel out who might be open to a better offer."

Adam raised an eyebrow. "You want them to switch sides, boss?"

Lorenzo nodded, a wolfish grin spreading across his face. "Yes. Once they've identified the weak links, have them start making overtures. Money, protection, promises of a better future - whatever it takes. And once they've flipped, I want them to answer to Thomas Shelby."

Adam looked surprised. "Shelby? Not us?"

"Not directly, no," Lorenzo explained. "We're playing a long game here, Adam. By having them follow Shelby's orders, we accomplish two things. First, we give Thomas the edge he needs against Luca. Second, we create a direct line of influence into the Peaky Blinders' operations. Information is power, after all."

Adam nodded, understanding dawning on his face. "Clever, boss. And if things go south?"

Lorenzo shrugged. "Then we have plausible deniability. As far as anyone knows, those men made their own choice to betray Luca and join Shelby. We're just innocent bystanders."

"Got it, boss. I'll get on it right away."

Adam left, leaving Lorenzo alone with his thoughts.

A few weeks after setting his plan in motion, Lorenzo sat in his office, reviewing the latest reports from his operatives across the country.

A satisfied smile played on his lips as he read through the details.

In New York, Changretta's liquor shipments were facing unprecedented delays. Dock workers, mysteriously motivated by sudden bursts of professional zeal, were meticulously inspecting every crate. More often than not, these inspections resulted in "accidental" breakages or confiscations due to paperwork irregularities.

Chicago told a similar tale. Changretta's distribution network was in disarray. Trucks carrying their product frequently found themselves pulled over for "routine" inspections, while local bars and speakeasies were suddenly hesitant to stock Changretta brands, citing "quality concerns."

Meanwhile, Lorenzo's own Lupo Liquor was gaining ground. With Changretta's supply chain in shambles, bar owners and distributors were turning to the reliable Lupo brand to meet demand. Lorenzo's marketing team had done an excellent job, positioning Lupo as the premium, trustworthy alternative to the "unreliable" competition.

In smaller markets, the effect was even more pronounced. Cities like Boston, Philadelphia, and Detroit saw Changretta's market share plummet as Lupo's rose. The campaign Lorenzo had initiated was bearing fruit, with rumors of Changretta's imminent downfall spreading through underworld channels.

Lorenzo picked up a glass of his own label's whiskey, savoring both the smooth taste and the sweet success.

As Lorenzo's empire continued to expand, his wives were carving out their own niches in the business world.

Deborah had launched her own clothing line, "Deborah's Grace." The designs, mysteriously ahead of their time, were actually based on Lorenzo's recollections from his previous life.

With the full force of Lorenzo's media empire behind it, the brand quickly gained traction among Hollywood elites and fashion-conscious women across the country.

Apollonia, drawing on her Sicilian roots, had opened a chain of high-end Italian restaurants. "Apollonia's Cucina" became the go-to spot for celebrities and power brokers looking for authentic Italian cuisine in a discreet setting.

The restaurants also served as perfect fronts for some of the family's more clandestine meetings.

Mica, with her sharp mind for numbers, had taken charge of a new division within the Lupo Financial Group. She specialized in "creative accounting" for wealthy clients, helping them navigate the complex world of tax laws and offshore accounts. Her services were in high demand among the rich and powerful, further cementing the Lupo family's influence in legitimate circles.

Their businesses not only added to the family's legitimate portfolio but also provided excellent cover and networking opportunities for their less-than-legal operations.

In the dimly lit study of the Corleone compound in Long Island, Michael Corleone sat behind his imposing desk, his face a mask of concentration as he listened to Tom Hagen's report. The consigliere's voice was steady as he delivered the news, but there was an undercurrent of concern.

"...and finally, Michael, there's the matter of the Changretta family's liquor business. I'm afraid the news isn't good. They're hemorrhaging market share across multiple states. New York, Chicago, Boston - they're all reporting significant losses."

Michael's brow furrowed, his eyes narrowing slightly. "How significant?"

Tom shuffled through his papers. "In some markets, they're down by as much as 40%. It's happening too fast to be natural market fluctuations."

Michael leaned back in his chair, his mind working through the implications. "This isn't just bad luck or mismanagement. Someone's targeting them."

Tom nodded in agreement. "The question is, who has the reach and resources to hit Changretta this hard, this fast, across so many territories?"

There was a moment of heavy silence before Michael spoke, his voice cold and certain. "Lupo."

Tom's eyebrows raised slightly. "Lorenzo? But Michael, the Lupos are our friend. Why would they-"

Michael cut him off with a sharp gesture. "In this business, Tom, there are no friends. Only interests." His voice was devoid of emotion, but there was a dangerous glint in his eyes.

Tom fell silent, watching Michael carefully.

"What do you want to do?" Tom asked finally.

Michael was quiet for a long moment, his fingers steepled in front of him. When he spoke, his voice was low and measured. "For now, we watch. Gather more information. I want to know everything about Lupo's recent moves, especially anything related to liquor distribution or the Changrettas."

Tom nodded, making notes.

Meanwhile, in England, the vendetta between the Changretta family and the Peaky Blinders had reached a critical point. Luca Changretta's plan was unfolding with brutal efficiency. The eldest Shelby brother, Arthur, had fallen victim to Changretta's revenge, leaving a gaping wound in the heart of the Shelby family.

At Arthur's funeral, an unexpected visitor appeared.

Audrey Changretta, Luca's mother, attended the somber event bearing a white flag - a symbol of surrender. She revealed the Changretta family's intention to claim victory in their vendetta, demanding that the Shelbys sign over all their businesses.

Luca's next move was to visit Alfie Solomons' factory, ready to claim it as part of his expanding empire. However, he was met with an empty facility, Alfie having vanished without a trace. Undeterred, Luca declared the business as his, another piece falling into place in his plan.

The following day, Luca confronted Tommy Shelby directly. In a display of dominance, he presented Tommy with papers detailing all of the Shelby and Peaky businesses, insisting that Tommy sign them over to the Changretta family or face immediate death.

Luca revealed that while he had wanted to kill the Shelbys outright, his mother had suggested a crueler fate - to let them live, stripped of everything they had built.

Luca's mockery was palpable as he threw the papers at Tommy's feet, demanding that he sign them on his knees. It was a moment of triumph for Luca, the culmination of his carefully orchestrated revenge.

However, Tommy Shelby was not a man to be easily defeated.

Thomas, though on his knees, kept his piercing blue eyes fixed on Luca. His voice was low as he said. "Feelin' mighty proud of yourself, eh?"

Luca smirked. "You bet your ass I am, Tommy boy."

Tommy's lips curled into a slight smile. "Might wanna hear me out before you start struttin' about like a king, mate."

Luca raised an eyebrow, amused. "Oh yeah? What's cookin' in that head of yours, Shelby?"

Tommy's voice took on an edge of steel. "While you've got the Corleones in your corner, I've got someone who makes them look like small time players."

Luca let out a chuckle, glancing at his men. "You hear this guy? Thinks he's got the Pope in his pocket or somethin'."

Tommy's smile widened, a dangerous glint in his eye. "Ever heard of the Wolf of Los Angeles? Lorenzo Lupo? Well, he sends his regards."

Luca's smile dissapeared. "The fuck you say?"

As realization dawned, Luca noticed his men's guns were now trained on him.

Tommy slowly rose, brushing off his knees. "See, in here, it ain't about who you know in New York. It's about who you know everywhere else."

Luca's eyes darted around, panic setting in. "Lorenzo fuckin' Lupo..." he muttered.

Tommy adjusted his cap, his voice cold. "Now, about them papers. Think it's time we had ourselves a proper chat, eh?"
