Lord of Entertainment C2 System
Added 2024-08-16 22:52:06 +0000 UTCI leaned in closer, my eyes narrowing as I scrutinized the floating panel before me. No, I wasn't hallucinating. It was really there, shimmering in the air like some sort of ethereal computer screen.
With a mixture of excitement and trepidation, I reached out and tapped the "Activate" button. The panel shimmered and shifted, reconfiguring itself before my eyes.
[Congratulations! You activated the system! You can now view your status and abilities.]
My heart raced as I read the next set of information:
[Status:
Name: Arthur Asmodeus Nevermore
Race: Demon
Strength: 15
Agility: 14
Intelligence: 18
Stamina: 16
Luck: 12]
The system informed me that these were average stats for a demon of my age, nothing to write home about. My intelligence was slightly above average, which could help with mana manipulation and spellcasting, but it was far from impressive compared to my brothers or other noble demons.
[Abilities:
- Fire Creation (Beginner): Can create and manipulate small flames.
- Shadow Manipulation (Novice): Basic ability to control shadows.
Skills:
- Craftsmanship (Beginner): Basic knowledge of creating and repairing mechanical devices.
- Mechanics (Beginner): Rudimentary understanding of how machines work.
- Film Critic (Intermediate): Extensive knowledge of film history and techniques.
- Book Critic (Intermediate): Well-versed in literature analysis and critique.]
I stared at my status, a mix of emotions washing over me. On one hand, seeing my abilities and skills laid out so plainly was a bit disheartening. I was as average as they came, at least by demon standards. But on the other hand, having this system, whatever it was, felt like a secret advantage.
As I pondered the implications of this new development, a thought struck me. What exactly was this system capable of? And more importantly, how could I use it to my advantage in a world that had all but written me off?
Curious, I explored the system further and noticed a "Tasks" button. I tapped it, and to my surprise, a task was already prepared:
[Task: Exercise every day. You need to exercise (push-ups, pull-ups, squats, burpees, high-intensity interval training, and long-distance running), as a human but in a demon body, you have to take advantage! A demon physique potential is unexplored!
Reward: 0.1 Points (points that can increase status)]
I couldn't help but chuckle at the task. A demon's physique potential is unexplored? Maybe there was some truth to that.
After all, demons have long relied on their {Sinful Magic} too much. It's potent, sure, more so than the humans' {Mana Magic}. But humans found a way to overcome that advantage through their worship of gods, gaining blessings that could equal or even surpass {Sinful Magic}.
Take the {Holy Magic} from worshiping Solarus, the Lord of Light, for instance. It actually beats down {Sinful Magic} due to its properties. Then there are the elves who worship the moon goddess, Lunaria, gaining {Moon Magic}. And let's not forget the dwarves who worship the god of Craftsmanship. While their magic might not match the others in raw power, it's helped them create mechanical marvels and weapons with more potential than holy or moon magic.
As a beginner mechanic myself, I know these dwarven weapons need a power source, either magic or electricity. But the point stands - they've found ways to compete that don't rely solely on innate magical ability.
It's becoming clearer and clearer that demons will continue to fall behind in this race if they rely on magic alone.
Maybe exercising isn't such a bad idea after all. If I can explore the untapped potential of a demon's physical abilities, who knows what advantages I might gain?
Intrigued, I continued to scroll through the other tasks. Each one seemed more interesting than the last:
[Clean the mess in your room. Reward: Disguise Skill (Level 1) - Ability to alter your appearance slightly. Can be leveled up with use.]
I glanced around my cluttered room. Cleaning had never been my strong suit, but for a useful skill like that? It might be worth the effort.
[Fix yourself, cut your hair, and be charming. Reward: 0.3 Luck]
I ran a hand through my unkempt hair. A makeover for luck? That seemed like a fair trade.
As I scrolled, my eyes were drawn to a task title highlighted in gold, seemingly more important than the others:
[Gain fame and reputation. Goal: 1,000 fans. Reward: Mechanical and Craftsmanship skills increase by one level.
System reminder: This task is continuous. Upon reaching 1,000 fans, the goal increases to 10,000 fans, and so on. Each milestone offers different rewards.]
I stroked my chin, pondering the tasks before me. Gaining 1,000 fans? What was the point of that? I wondered. Then I shook my head, chiding myself. Having a system like this was already confusing enough. No need to question its logic too deeply.
Fame and reputation...
That was something I'd never even considered pursuing. As the overlooked prince, I'd always tried to fade into the background. But now...
The rewards were tempting, especially the boost to my mechanical and craftsmanship skills. And the continuous nature of the task meant long-term benefits. But how exactly was I supposed to gain fans? What could I, the unremarkable demon prince, do to capture people's attention and admiration?
As I considered the challenge, my initial enthusiasm waned. With my current reputation in the demon kingdom, gaining even one fan seemed like a stretch, let alone a thousand.
The disguise skill reward for cleaning my room caught my eye again. Maybe I could use that to reinvent myself, create a new identity that people might actually admire. But then I remembered the harsh reality of demon society. The majority of demons in the kingdom barely cared for each other, much less about becoming someone's "fan."
If I had my brothers' image and powerful talents, it might be possible. But I'm not my brothers. I'm just... me.
Anything outside of raw power was disdained by demons. It would be hard to impress them. Even if I were to sing famous songs from my previous life, they might admire the performance, but they wouldn't become fans. Not in the way the system seemed to want.
I flopped back onto my cluttered bed, staring at the ceiling. The task seemed impossible within the confines of demon society. But maybe... maybe that was the point? Perhaps I needed to think outside the box, beyond the borders of the kingdom.
Venturing beyond the demon realm? It was practically unheard of for someone of my status. But then again, when had playing by the rules ever done me any favors?
I decided to start with cleaning my room to receive the reward. As I sorted through piles of books and mechanical odds and ends, I could feel a sense of accomplishment growing. Once the room was tidy, I headed to the bathroom to tackle the next task.
Standing before the mirror, I took a deep breath and began to cut my long, wavy hair. Strands fell away, revealing a new me with each snip. After a shower, I studied my reflection, surprised by what I saw.
I looked... handsome. Fresh-faced and sharper with the new haircut. While I might not live up to my parents' expectations in terms of demonic power, I had to admit I'd been blessed with the devil's charm. My body, lean but subtly muscular, looked good in the new clothes I'd chosen.
