King of Games C50 Testing the VR immersive game
Added 2024-07-06 09:32:08 +0000 UTC Shinro stepped into the underground laboratory, his footsteps echoing on the sterile tiles. The scientists in their pristine white coats glanced up from their workstations, visibly startled to see their boss, Shinro, in their midst once more.
"Boss, is there anything we could help you with?" Taro, a bespectacled researcher, asked cautiously.
Shinro nodded, revealing a USB drive in his fingers. "I've got a complete realistic virtual game in here. I've wanted to try it."
At first, the researchers seemed nonchalant, adjusting their glasses or continuing to type on their keyboards. But as his words sank in, their expressions morphed into surprise, then shock.
"What!?" Taro blurted out, his eyes wide behind his lenses.
The other researchers began to chime in, their voices overlapping. "Boss, we promise to do our best to complete one virtual world immediately, but it will still take years!"
"That's right, boss. There's no other way around it. Our game engine and our system still couldn't lightly create a virtual realistic games!"
Taro added his voice to the mix, visibly flustered. "They're right, boss. I think we just need a bit of patience..."
Shinro's brows furrowed, and he held up the USB drive, "What are you all talking about? Prepare the prototype virtual headset. I'll be testing my complete, virtual, realistic game in my USB."
The researchers' jaws dropped as he revealed a slightly larger USB drive. "W-wait, boss. Are you saying you have a complete virtual realistic game in that?"
Shinro's nod was curt. "Yes. And don't just stand there. Connect the USB to our supercomputer and install it on the headset."
"U-understood, boss!" The researchers scurried to do as he said, still skeptical but too intimidated to question their boss further.
They connected the USB drive to the supercomputer, their hands shaking ever so slightly as they inputted commands. The lab was filled with the low hum of the machine booting up and the tense silence that followed. The researchers exchanged disbelieving glances, still finding it hard to believe that Shinro had managed to create a complete virtual game in such a short time. But, because it was their boss's order, they had no choice but to comply.
The supercomputer whirred as it read the USB, but to the researchers' shock, it didn't take long for the machine to process the data. The holographic display showcased a stunningly realistic fantasy world, complete with detailed laws, physics, and even seemingly sentient AI inhabitants. The virtual world before them was so lifelike that it was hard to differentiate it from reality.
"H-how is this possible?" Taro muttered, his voice hushed with awe and disbelief.
Shinro smirked, well aware of their disbelief but choosing not to elaborate on the source of this marvel. "You all just need to know that I want you to install the virtual world into our virtual console storage."
"Y-yes, boss," the researchers chorused, still reeling from the implications of what they were witnessing.
"Can our prototype handle the heavy computing power of this complete virtual realistic game?" Shinro asked, almost as an afterthought.
Taro adjusted his glasses and hesitantly replied, "We're not entirely sure, boss. But if we lower the demands of the game and if it's already optimized for the console, it might run smoothly."
"Then find out if the game is already optimized for our virtual console," Shinro commanded.
The researchers sprang into action, their fingers flying across their keyboards as they began to run diagnostics.
Taro couldn't help but ask, "If you don't mind me asking, boss, where did you get such a virtual world?"
Shinro's expression remained impassive as he said curtly, "That's a secret. Just do
your job."
"Un-understood," Taro answered, her voice trembling slightly, visibly intimidated by the secrecy surrounding the origins of the virtual world.
As time passed, the researchers' surprise grew when they noticed something peculiar. Shinro had been inside the lab for an hour, his full attention on the code, lines of which were displayed on the numerous monitors around him.
"Boss, it's hard to believe, but the virtual world you brought was already optimized for our virtual console," Taro said in disbelief.
Shinro glanced up from his task, a flicker of interest in his eyes. "Is that so?"
"Yes, but we still need to lower the demands, it'll take a while, maybe a few days. Are you willing to wait, boss?" Taro asked cautiously.
Shinro considered the question for a moment and then nodded. "It's fine. Keep me updated on your progress." With that, he left the room, the researchers staring after him in awe and curiosity.
After a few days, Shinro received a message from Agasa informing him that the VR headset was ready for testing. He nodded curtly at the man and followed him to the testing area.
As they walked, Agasa couldn't help but voice his thoughts. "You're Sonoko's older brother, right?"
"Yes, I am," Shinro replied with a small smile, "You know her?"
Agasa's eyes lit up. "Yes, she's a classmate of my friend, Shinichi. Though you two are siblings, you have a vast difference."
Shinro chuckled wryly. He knew what Agasa meant; Sonoko was a pampered, spoiled kid, while he had worked his way up from the bottom.
Agasa and Shinro strolled through the laboratory's pristine halls, engrossed in their conversation, their voices muffled by the hum of the advanced technology around them as they neared the testing area.
The researchers, donned in their white lab coats, scurried about, finalizing preparations for the big moment. They turned as the duo approached, their eyes alight with excitement and trepidation. Agasa smiled proudly and gestured towards a VR headset and a comfortable-looking seat.
"All set," Taro announced, handing the headset to Shinro.
Shinro donned the headset, and the researchers watched intently as he fastened the straps.
In the virtual world, Shinro opened his eyes, marveling at the toned-down but still realistic graphics. However, a feeling of unease crept up on him. When he saw the size of his avatar's hands, he understood why.
"Why is my avatar a kid?" he asked, his voice filled with disbelief.
In the real world, the researchers exchanged glances. Taro, the one who had been in charge of lowering the game's demand, responded through the microphone, "I'm sorry, boss. To allow the game to run smoothly on our virtual console, we had to lower the demand for the avatars as well. Adult avatars require significantly more data to render. We apologize for the inconvenience."
Shinro sighed, understanding the reasoning but still disappointed. "It can't be helped. I'll just have to make do."
After exploring the virtual world for a while, Shinro decided he'd seen enough for now. The game was fun, but he couldn't shake the feeling that something was off with his child avatar. Reluctantly, he decided to return to the real world.
Removing the VR headset, Shinro took a deep breath as he returned to the lab.
Shinro couldn't shake the feeling that something was off about the child avatar he'd been using in the virtual world. He couldn't tell if the discomfort was due to the unfamiliarity of controlling a smaller body or if there was an actual issue with the game's programming.
The researchers apologized again, but Shinro waved it off. "It's fine. I understand the limitations we're working with."
Then, a mischievous plan began to form in his mind. He turned to Agasa and said, "Professor, you know some kids, right?"
Agasa, sensing the mischief in Shinro's eyes, hesitantly replied, "R-Right..."
Shinro's smile grew wider. "Perfect. I want you to invite them to test the virtual world on our prototype VR headset."
The other researchers were taken aback. "But boss, shouldn't we keep our virtual reality project a secret?"
Shinro waved off their concerns. "It's fine. I have a feeling these kids can keep a secret..." he said with a chuckle, "Besides, they're pretty good at it..."
Agasa's eyes widened, realizing who Shinro was likely talking about.
