Part 16

Arin’s face flushed a deeper shade of red as Misty continued her playful musings. “You’re not serious about this, are you?” he asked, his voice tinged with a mix of skepticism and exasperation.

Misty shrugged, her eyes glinting with amusement. “Maybe, maybe not. But wouldn’t it be fun? Picture me taking you on a shopping spree, finding the perfect outfit to show off your… assets.”

Arin sighed, his tone laced with resignation. “Not that it matters, but even if you were serious, I don’t think I’d want that.”

Misty leaned closer, poking his cheek with her finger. “Your voice lacks conviction. Deep down, I think you’d love it.”

“They do not lack conviction,” Arin protested, frowning as the faint pink on his cheeks betrayed him.

Misty’s smile widened, unrelenting. “Oh, come on, Arin. Don’t play coy. I can feel the excitement radiating from you.” She poked his cheek again for emphasis.

Arin groaned, his blush deepening. “That’s not true! And for the record, I wouldn’t enjoy you spoiling me like that.”

Just then, Chloe’s voice called up from downstairs, cutting through their banter. “Dinner’s ready!”

Misty turned her head toward the door, her teasing momentarily interrupted. “Dinner time,” she said lightly, giving Arin’s cheek one last playful poke before standing.

“Come on, Princess,” she added with a grin, motioning toward the door. “Time to grace the world with your royal presence.”

With a sigh, Arin pushed himself up from the chair, the hem of the dress swaying slightly as he moved. He glanced at his reflection in the mirror, his eyes widening at the subtle addition of pink lipstick. The color lent a delicate softness to his features, much to his dismay.

Misty, standing just behind him, rested her chin on his shoulder, meeting his gaze in the mirror. “See? You look adorable,” she said with a teasing smirk.

“I don’t look adorable. It’s weird,” Arin muttered, fidgeting with the dress.

“Classic tsundere,” Misty laughed, stepping back.

“What does that even mean?” Arin shot her a confused glance, but his expression softened as her laughter filled the room.

Misty wrapped her arms around his shoulders in a playful hug, her voice dropping to a gentle murmur. “You’re adorable, Arin. No use denying it.” She pressed a light kiss to his neck, making him freeze in place.

“I don’t enjoy this, okay?” Arin muttered, stepping out of her embrace and heading for the door.

Misty followed, her smirk intact. In her mind, though, her thoughts ran wild. He can deny it all he wants, but his blush and those little glances at the mirror say otherwise. You’re not fooling me, Arin.

As Arin descended the stairs, his steps were cautious, and his hands nervously tugged at the edges of the dress. Misty trailed behind, watching the way he tried to make himself smaller, as though that might somehow make the outfit and lipstick less obvious.

Chloe’s cheerful voice greeted them from the dining room. “Finally! You two took so long I was about to start without—” Her words trailed off as she caught sight of Arin, her face lighting up with delight. “Oh my goodness! Arin, you look adorable!”

Arin froze mid-step, his blush returning in full force. “Mom, please don’t start,” he mumbled, avoiding her gaze.

Leaning casually against the doorframe, Misty stifled a laugh. “Told you he looks cute, didn’t I?”

Chloe clasped her hands together in admiration. “Oh, absolutely! Misty, you’ve done an amazing job. That lipstick shade suits him so well!”

Arin groaned, sinking into a chair at the table. “Can we just eat? I feel like I’ve been through enough.”

Chloe, unfazed, walked over for a closer look. “You know, if you wore this for the school play, you’d absolutely steal the show. Such natural beauty!”

“Mom!” Arin’s voice cracked slightly as he buried his face in his hands.

Misty smirked as she took her seat across from him. “She’s right, you know. You’re practically glowing.”

Chloe chuckled, placing a bowl of soup in front of him. “Alright, alright, I’ll stop— for now.” She winked at Misty before returning to the kitchen.

Arin peeked up from behind his hands, his face still flushed. “I’m never living this down, am I?”

Misty tilted her head, her grin softening into something more genuine. “Nope. But hey, at least you’ve got me as your ‘prince.’ I’ll protect you from any evil villains—or nosy classmates.”

Arin rolled his eyes, picking up his spoon with a reluctant sigh. “Just what I needed.”
