How have ya'll been enjoying the return of JAMIE? A lot of you only know this version of the comic, but for those that have been with us since 2014 you'll know that this is the first time we've seen content post date-not-date.
It's been so scary moving the story forward because it has changed sooooo much since the original plan, but I'm super happy that I gave myself the time I needed to grow and develop the ideas this way. Im still nervous to make a mis-step in the plot that I regret later but, I'm also a different artist today than I was back then. I'm okay with JAMIE being imperfect, even if I do my very best at every step. I've never followed the traditional story structures and formats before, so I'll just keep making it up as I go. It's gotten me this far LOL

But yeah, my next goals are to find the motivation and time to run through the entire script a few more times and tighten things up so that I'm not doing it during the penciling process for each page. I wanna wrap it up and just work on the art. It's just been a little tough with my weekly deadlines regarding 'THE DOG KNIGHT' and 'NORTHRANGER' (Good news! I think we're finally wrapped with those two projects, so it'll just be me, JAMIE, and TDK2.) Hopefully that leaves me with a little more time to plan ahead.
That leads me to talking about the consideration I've been giving the idea of going monochrome with JAMIE ;-; While this is not something I want to sacrifice during the first publication you're reading, it doesn't necessarily mean that the pages will never be colored. If I ever print, it'd just be something I do then. Also, I would still plan on doing covers and important moments in color for the webcomic.
I'm hoping that with this change I would be able to tell the story quicker, since I'd have more time for script retouches, AND I'd spend less time on each page. With that, I may be able to double or triple my page output. While I know you are all so patient and kind, I don't want to take advantage of your time, and I also want to...well, get to new stories!
So what do you think? I was thinking of dropping colors after chapter 6 wraps up, and to be honest it might feel appropriate with the shift in mood coming with the plot ;)
I may even be able to format for mobile readers like I wanted for a while, but I'm still trying to decide if its worth the shift. Maybe with less on my plate it wont be such a daunting option.

I'm trying to think about what to draw for Nov/Dec. Do you all like to vote on what I draw, or would you prefer that I just make it a surprise based on what I want to draw? I'm okay with either option, but just checking in.

2022-10-10 16:49:52 +0000 UTCYou don't have to do it all in one go if it's more convenient for you, like if you start uploading a weekly scrolling version, you can start with 3 eps and then edit one episode a week or something like that ? As for the change, you can just look at the numbers, I've been stuck around 70K subs on tapas for years and I'm at 320K right now on webtoon despite starting later so... yeah. But it's more a question of platforms than format, I publish the same scrolling version on Tapas and it doesn't attract many readers. But I don't think the readers on webtoon would be open to a page format so... scrolling it is :)

I do plan on keeping it mostly lines and using one or 2 greys. Maybe the bg lineart will be grey. I'll try a few looks and maybe have patrons vote on their fav. Also thanks for your experience going standard to scroll format! I'll do my best not to overthink and overcomplicate things 🤧 I think if I focus I could get the edits and reupload done on all mirrors in 2 weeks maybe haha. It is gonna be a lot of work, ESPECIALLY IF PEOPLE DISLIKE THE CHNAGE lol I'd die. What type of difference did making the change of format do for your viewership? if you don't mind me asking. And great point regarding the last part. The ole bait n switch LOL 😂

2022-10-10 08:10:04 +0000 UTCMonochrome is completely fine for me but maybe try not to make the same mistake as I do with HM and don't use too many different types of grey if you really want to save time... Like maybe more like the way they do it in mangas, using the greys to make a character pop in front of a lighter background or something like that, or it will take almost as much time as colors... As for formating for webtoon, it would be SO worth it for your series. And it's really not that long, it takes me about 30 min for 5 pages on HM and even though it's clear it wasn't meant to be in scrolling format (the text keep changing size, some panels are too horizontal etc.) No one has ever complained on that aspect so it will be fine for Jamie if you do it as quickly as I do I think. AND you have the advantage of colors! I know that a lot of readers on webtoon are deterred by greyscales but even if yours ends up that way, the first 6 chaps will be colored so you'll have the time to hook the readers and then they won't mind because you know, good story :D
2022-10-10 07:23:33 +0000 UTCi think it's a great compromise 💕 stories want to be told and your colours are so beautiful, but very time-consuming. happy to wait for the fully coloured print version. i remember the first version! i found jamie on tapas just before you went on hiatus to restart 💕😍
