Year of the Ko

We are currently at the start of the Chinese New Year and 2025 is the Year of the Snake. So here's another drawing of Ko with her pink (still no-named) pal as, well... a snake... as suggested by one of your fellow patrons last month. First time I've drawn that guy as an animal. Although now that I think about it, perhaps a missed opportunity to draw him* as a "Kobra".

This is now the fourth sketch of Ko I've shared on here and so far I realize each one has looked a little different from the last. Happy with the slightly longer, messier hair and wider eyes in this one. A little Chuck Jones blended into the initial loose-manga influence. Probably fits my style a little better too.

I think that's half the fun of this! Each time reeling in closer to a look I like. Something that feels unique with more of a concrete personality. Already I can feel the beginnings of a wider world and story involving her. I'm about 8% there. It's exciting.

Speaking of which, "Ko" was never meant to be a permanent name for her. But a month into this that's what we've all started calling her so I think it's stuck now. Positive I want it be short for something though. Guess we'll see what develops!

*Decided on referring to Ko's pink pal as "he/him" simply because in my head that's what I've started doing. Also, a little easier clarification when I'm talking about only one of them as I felt folks were stumbling on the "they". I might flip flop on this though.
