Cleopatra in Space: Story Club

Happy Monday, my friends!

Today marks the tenth anniversary of Target Practice, the very first CLEOPATRA IN SPACE graphic novel published by Scholastic! I can't believe it's been so long. It was only a couple of years prior that I left my then graphic design job to start working on the series full time. It could have been a disaster, but here I am. Still miraculously making graphic novels full-time. Well, mostly full-time. I'm thankful for print sales, school visits and your support here that affords me the ability to continuously focus on them. There's nothing I love drawing more than comics.

And with that, I thought I'd celebrate today's occasion with a two page Cleopatra in Space comic! I actually wrote this little story back in 2017, to take place between books four and five. But it was never published except behind a paywall for I think maybe a library association or something? I honestly can't remember. It was also only in black & white.

I always loved this little comic though and thought it a shame most of my readers never got to see it. So I decided to unearth it, redraw some bits, and give it some color. I think it's a pretty fitting anniversary comic. And I'm really excited to share it with everyone now.

Enjoy!

FYI: For any new followers, this is not the first time I've shared a bonus CLEOPATRA IN SPACE story. I posted a fun six-page comic here last year (it also takes place between books 4 & 5). It might be nice to do more of these if I ever find the time. If anything just to keep the series alive. Maybe even something that takes place past the final book. πŸ™‚

Awe that's awesome, Derek. Love hearing that some folks were already into the comic way back then.

I wonder how many of us found you from Cleopatra in Spaaaace? I remember back to your web comic before Target Practice and that's when I fell in love with this caharacter. I wanted to cosplay as one of the academy instructors, but never quite got past making the ray gun (or finding just the right shade of purple for the uniform :-) ). Thanks so much for all this!

That was lovely :)
