An Unfortunate Update

So unfortunately I've got a bit of bad news.

It looks like rather than requiring just one surgery I'm going to need two and have also been referred for a full body CT scan in order to see if there is cancer present in other areas of my body.

Obviously, a negative result would be fantastic but there is also a possibility I'll need more surgery/immunotherapy.

The reality is that I'm struggling to deal with all of this. It's all been extremely sudden and both me and Steph feel really bowled over by everything. It's been tough to get through things week to week when you feel like the situation just keeps getting worse and it's impacted every day since the diagnosis in a really negative way.

Thank you so much for all the kind words and nice messages in the meantime. I'm really sorry if I've not replied - it can sometimes really help the situation to just bury my head in the sand.

Hopefully soon I'll have some better news to share.

So given all this - I had hoped that maybe I could get the next video out before my surgery but now I'm just not sure. I'm going to keep working on it when I can and maybe it'll somehow hit the channel but I don't want to commit to a date when I simply won't be able to keep to it.

This does make me feel very guilty considering you're all pledging monthly support so I thought at the very least I could upload a little preview of the sort of thing I'd be covering.

This section is technically part 2 and deals with the background behind Onimusha's development and some of the strange things I've wanted to cover while researching it.

Fingers crossed it's an enjoyable little watch and can tide you over until the full thing. Once again I'm extremely sorry it's been such a long wait and I really hope you can understand.

Much love - Matt

You just keep on keeping on. Like CombatWombat said, this has never been a purchasing type of transaction for me. I love the stuff you put out and I am completely sympathetic to you being an actual human being with actual human experiences. The one you are going through now is one of the tougher, and I must say, after watching your recent live stream.. you are staying way more positive than I ever did when I had lymphoma! I buried myself deep and have barely got my head above ground since, dealing with the aftermath and the ever present doubts. Point being.. take your time, know that we all love and support you, and take f'ing care, man. You mean a lot to the people around you, and of course to all of us here on Patreon ❤️

This has never been a ‘purchasing’ type of transaction - I enjoy watching what you make, I think the world is genuinely a better place with your impressions and research in it, and I want to encourage thoughtful and insightful analysis like yours. My investment has already paid off in spades - hell, you could take a year off to take care of what needs taking care of and I’d still consider it a good investment. Doing the smart thing and taking care of yourself isn’t failing any of us - it’s just reinvesting our contributions in the future instead of burning it for short term benefits.

Crossing all my fingers for you mate, take it easy and we'll be here for you when ever you're about :)

I have no problems waiting until you're in a better place to release anything. I'd rather you take the time you need. Best wishes.

I've just subbed to the Patreon after I saw your message on the Discord regarding the latest news. I mention that because I think it's important for you to know that a lot of people aren't signed up to this just because of your "product", but rather to show support for someone who's making things they enjoy, and that support extends to the times when you have more than justifiable reasons for slowing down your output. Just focus on getting better and all the other stuff will come with time, no need to feel guilty over anything, you have plenty of stuff on your mind as it is!

Alex

I'm gonna just point up to what Khoa said there. Do what you have to do, take care of YOU, first. My membership isn't going anywhere, and anything we can do to help, even if it's just urging you to look out for yourself, you got it!

Continue being a tough bastard and beat the shit out cancer.

Hi Matt, a CT scan is just good clinical practice. It doesn't mean you have or don't have further symptoms ... it's just an item on a checklist that's performed. I want to reiterate what others have said and state that I doubt anyone would mind if you took some time to take care of yourself mentally, emotionally, and physically. I doubt Onimusha is making much news these days, so your video will remain topical whenever you are able to release it. :-) Take care, and I have full faith that you'll come out of this fully recovered. <3

Khoa

I'm so sorry it's not gone a smoothly as you hoped. As others have said, I've got hours and hours and hours of enjoyment out of your content and am more than happy to keep supporting. Take care of yourself mate, really looking forward to the next video but, I can wait

Paul Ormerod

Really sorry Matt. But don't sweat us pledging. I'm sure I speak for many of us when I say I've gotten dozens and dozens of hours of enjoyment watching your content. I don't look at my pledge as a "make more stuff" thing, but more of a "thanks for what you've done" thing. Really hoping you get good news. You're in my thoughts often man.

You're gonna get through this! Sending all the love

Silan

Sending best wishes to you, Matt. Looking forward to more awesome videos from you, when the time is right.

Hey Matt ! Don’t know if this helps, but just in case your doctor didn’t mention it: You getting a whole body CT scan is NOT meant to imply a negative prognosis. Performing a whole body CT Scan (usually in combination with an Iodine-based contrast agent) is good clinical practice when cancer is discovered in a patient. Must of the time, these scans are performed multiple times pre- and post therapy for assessment, monitoring and screening purposes. (I’m a radiographer by trade; most of my patients come in for the very same staging purposes) Nevertheless, I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you all the same ! Take care ! 🫂

I am just happy to be able to support you through this rough time, and I have always understood that supporting someone's Patreon means supporting them as a person as well as the content they make. I think we all understand how life can suck and take us way out of what we hope to do, so I just hope that you are able to use this time for your own health. Content is never more important than someone's life

Josh Deena

I'm firmly of the belief that when I sign up for a patreon, I'm supporting that person's ability to do what they need to do. If what you need to do is focus on your health, that's much more important to me than when content comes out. I appreciate the accountability and the updates, but I personally don't feel the need to nickel and dime my support based on content.

I'm all the gladder that I'm contributing here in light of these last few months, not at all worried about a release date. Please take it easy and be as kind to yourself as possible. :)

I am so sorry to hear about this. I can't imagine how much additional pressure and complication it must be adding to your life. You will be in my thoughts, and I have a good feeling about the way things will turn out! I have one more suggestion, just in case you have not heard of it yet: Wim Hof breathing. Or any kind of deep yogic breathing exercises combined with meditation to connect your mind and your body. I promise you this will help not just with helping your body take care of the cancer, but also with getting through the treatments and just physically feeling much, much better. Godspeed and keep being an incredible person who brings much joy to others!

Douglas Black

Take care of yourself Matt. Can't wait to see you back at 100 percent

Justin

You take all the time you need to be well. We will be here supporting you until you feel ready to come back to it.
