While Sofia was reading her skill, Bookie had started chatting with Pestle, while Pareth was still lounging on the ground.

“Pareth, I’m trying my new skill. It might be dangerous so uh… If anything weird happens, don’t follow unless I tell you to, alright?”

Pareth nodded, sitting up.

Sofia focused on her essence cores, all the divine essence resonating strangely together.

A strange mass appeared in her mind, like a weirdly shaped blurry and scrambled cloud of countless stars forming wave trails in all directions. Near a corner of the cloud, one star shone brighter than all the others.

What the hell is–

Sofia tried to observe one of the stars from up close, she saw herself.

Wearing the same clothes she was currently wearing, she was standing up in a different position.

Is that… My light?

Sofia stood up and copied the posture of the image ingrained in her mind.

Under Pareth’s shocked gaze, Sofia suddenly faded out of existence.

At the same time, Sofia found herself somewhere else. The transition had been instant and seamless, all the runes on her body shining brightly for a few seconds before dimming down again.

Holy shit.

She was in the middle of literally nowhere.

Space, the perfect black, cold, silent, empty.

She was so far that even her link with Pareth felt damaged, she could tell they were still linked, and give a vague direction, but that was it.

So this was the ‘ressource’... Looks like I’m stuck here for a bit.

Using the runeforged overlord flight to turn around, Sofia looked in the direction she felt her link with Pareth was. One star glimmered much stronger than the others in the black void of space, although it was still nothing but a small dot like all the other stars.

I see. So I’m not that far.

Still, I’m basically in the dark. Sun’s ritual isn’t working. The essence cores are also all… Weird. From being so far from their gods, I guess.

I wonder…

Sofia tried to use her ring to Zangdar, but even when the magic resolved, nothing happened.

She tried her storage ring next. No response.

Hmm. So a light year is the distance light goes in a year, I guess? That’d explain how I ended up here. Why would you name a distance with a time unit though? I get it but it’s unnecessarily confusing…

That’s straight up ridiculous.

Also… How the fuck am I supposed to go back?

Though Sofia could still summon the light map in her mind, she couldn’t use the skill yet, and while she could mostly remember where the shining star was, which she now understood was her current position, there was going to be an issue.

Any light I emitted while on Veliadren has already travel fucking far away from the planet by now. And I also know that the planet is moving. It’s pretty much impossible to return isn’t it?!

… If I manage to transpose close enough to it I might be able to reach Zangdar again. Yeah.

That’s my best bet, I think…

Annoyed, Sofia summed a bone chair, holding it up against her with her aura to allow herself to sit.

Doesn’t feel nearly as good without gravity.

She spent a bit of time observing the stars.

Boundless space… Well, I’m feeling it now. Feeling it really well… Cold and dark and boring, just like I remembered…

Hmmm. Now that I think about it. Isn’t this skill perfect to escape from the eye of the universe thing? Are the high scribes really in their right mind giving me a tool I could use to escape the prison they use against the ascended?

If they ever want to restrain me like they did Hugo can’t I just transpose myself out?

Well, it was a false assumption in the first place, I doubt the Lords are unable to travel faster than light.

Speaking of, this sight isn’t all that bad. Reminds me of that time I almost killed myself saying the Regulator’s name. I think I’ve been subconsciously avoiding using her real name since then…

Glad I put you in there today.

She grabbed the small bell attached to the scepter, it still shone with the weak iridescence of the Deep. Sofia shook the scepter. The bell chimed lightly, breaking the spatial silence.

Space is so strangely peaceful.
