Chapter 204 - Crowned
Added 2023-06-13 16:00:10 +0000 UTCSofia and her skeletons appeared back on floor 100. She was fully healed and now dressed in a white toga similar to Sen’s, with only her mana still empty. He dressed me up? Well, I’ll take that over the itchy cape… She looked around, most of her possessions were still on the ground everywhere, there had been more gold than needed in the sack she threw so there were also a lot of gold coins spread around. Victory was nowhere to be seen.
Sofia threw a look at Sen who gave a sign to wait, but also teleported all of Sofia’s stuff as well as her lost limbs back to her before he disappeared, leaving her standing in front of the junk pile.
“So I get my things back. Good, because if not… I don’t know, I can’t imagine Sen would leave me without my things especially since he knows my name.”
But I have no mana so I can’t store anything…
Sofia picked up her torn demonic arm, no longer covered in eyes, she grabbed her rings and glove back, and the Scepter came back by itself.
The Orichalcum is still all there, but in pieces. Well, that’s that for my possessions, I recovered the Saint set’s sash too, guess It fell off during the battle, the bracelet and headband should still be in the storage ring.
Sofia was trying to distract herself from the burning questions that only Sen or Victory could answer. For now she was alone atop the tower, so she tried not to think about them too much.
After a few minutes, both Sen and the tall Orc in burlap shorts appeared near the center of the platform, the Orc seemed very happy. Seriously, how did I win? The duo approached and Victory was first to talk.
“Rejoice, champion! I will give it to you, this Valiant Victory!” he said, nodding to himself.
“Thank you… But how did I win? Was the Sun ritual that effective? I did not expect much from it…”
It was Sen who stepped up to answer, “Let me explain, first what your ritual did, and then the objectives required to pass floor 100.”
He teleported Sofia’s pile of stuff to the side and a white table appeared in its place along with three chairs, after everyone sat down, he continued, “After you damaged the Incarnation of Victory enough, and because you stole his vessel’s divine essence, he was left with no choice but to use some of his godly powers to keep fighting. But, as you have seen, forcefully linking the Gods’ plane and the physical plane as he did is very dangerous and mana intensive. Your ritual did what you expected, by enhancing Victory’s mana regeneration, it dried out the mana of the arena faster than the spire could refill it. Like a flame without fuel, Victory’s new form burned out, and while I will not expand on details, it was good that you jumped off. If not you would have surely died in the process. To give you an idea, think Apostle mutation.”
“So there was more to come after the eyes?” Also I stole the essence?! When? Was it hidden in the sword or something?
Victory scratched his head, visibly uncomfortable.
“As I said, I’m not going to expand too much, do your own research,” Sen answered with a smirk. “Too much to go through right now already.”
“Tell me how I won, then, because it sure didn’t feel much like a victory. Did it have anything to do with the crown?”
“Indeed. See, the objective for this floor is as follows : ‘Achieve a state of mutual Valiant Victory.’ To get there, a few things need to happen. First of all, Victory must acknowledge you as a worthy opponent through battle. Then, you need to get and wear the crown. And lastly, you need to escape with it, and without using the emergency exit command from the trial. With all these conditions together, it allows for the perfect scenario where everybody wins.
Victory has won in battle because you fled in front of His overwhelming might. You have won the crown because you got away with it after winning it in a fair fight.
And to be clear, you wouldn’t have been able to escape without your ritual doing its thing. Victory’s half-Godly form was much more than the bit you saw sticking out from the top of the tower. But the chain reaction the ritual started paralyzed the entire entity.”
“The other eye covered limbs… I saw them while I was falling out. But, why not use them all to catch me at the top then?”
“Mana density constraints.”
Sofia almost asked why she couldn’t escape by flying up but remembered there was no mana above, instead she asked : ”Could I have teleported out some other way?”
“The Godly eyes prevent teleportation.”
“Oh…” Sofia then turned to Victory, “Do you need your essence back? I have no idea how that works exactly but I would like to keep it if possible.”
“Keep it. You need it to use the crown, it is now yours.” Victory assured with a neutral expression. Yet Scripture wants to kill me to take his back…
“Thank you, I will use it well.”
“I have no doubts. Now, let me share the true spoils of victory, champion.”
The Orc violently pierced his chest with his right fist. Blood splashed out, stopped by an invisible screen Sen was likely the source of. Victory’s hand thrashed around inside his chest, as if he was searching for something, and finally, he took his hand out, the wound closing back almost instantly. He held his closed and bloodied fist over the table, and slowly opened it, nine gems pouring out of it and bouncing on the table.
The sight was a bit disturbing but Sofia had done worse to herself so she wasn’t one to speak now. She looked at the colorful gems but without [Identify] they were all just rocks full of mana.
Victory spoke up again. “These are the jewels left by this place’s creators. They entrusted them to me. As someone who has overcome the hidden challenge of the hundredth floor, you may now choose three of them to decorate your crown.”
Sofia took off the golden crown, looking at it closer, it did have three empty slots to fit in gems. I suppose it’s not for aesthetics. How do I choose though?
“Oh, right, you still have no mana.” Sen exclaimed as he saw Sofia examine the crown, “Let me [Identify] everything for you, ask me if you have any questions.”
[Saintomancer’s Golden crown of Victory] :
Gain a cumulative strength buff from your every Valiant Victories.

Item level : 199.
Grade : Flawless.
Restriction : wearer must be Sofia Aphenoreth. Soulbound. System item.
“Valiant victories… What makes them count and what determines the category?”
Sen instantly answered as if he had been anticipating the question, “It’s all up to the grinning Orc over there, something about grandiose battles...”
“I see… What about it being a ‘System item’ then?”
“Your ownership of it and its continued existence is monitored and ensured by the system, simple as that. Also prevents identification and helps it stick to your head, among other things. It’s all positive to you. If you’re alright with the crown, let’s proceed with the jewels. Remember, you can only have three, no changing your mind later, so pick well. The amount of information I’m allowed to give for those is different, so you can ask questions but I do not promise I will answer.”
“Fine with me.”
What are they going to be, more things related to Victory?
The nine gemstones were all cut to the same shape and size, brimming with mana, they were obviously quite special, one of them in particular stood out to Sofia, it had the same red hues as her storage ring, [Rubedo’s Tail Biter].
Sen gave some more details before showing the gems’ details, “These are all passive effects, unless they pertain directly to skills, they will cost no mana to maintain, but you must wear the crown for them to be in effect. Also, and this is a detail to you, but like the relics from the 99th floor, the gems you pick are unique and won’t be offered again if someone else makes it here. The admins had estimated it would take five thousand years for the first person to have these, so you’re a bit early. Anyway…”

2023-06-14 16:44:58 +0000 UTCI know we're well past discussions but i want to throw my hat in with a guess as well, I think diamond and emerald are must haves, i don't think diamond will be retroactive but its gains for the future are insane given it will apply to all going forward, emerald is obvious with the dragon language but also incalculable if it does affect runes etc. Rubedo is my wild card pick at the moment tbh it's possible she'll pick any of the others but if this is a standard 10% at all times runes/transformation included its the best/safest pick with the information we have I think adamain would be more detrimental than helpful given her mana often nearly runs out before her runes are used, however I do think nigredo and chaos are strong contenders tho depending on the information we get this chapter given they could effectively give god killing power

2023-06-14 13:43:59 +0000 UTCA crown too? Isn't this too much? When I imagine her. Now I image black glove, rings, shit ton of priestess equipment, her * stronk fantasy metal* armor, her staff, sword. So much stuff... It gives me anxiety. That she will drop some by just walking, not even fighting)))))

2023-06-14 13:35:31 +0000 UTCDiamond Prism gives a permanent stat boost. It won't outright double her stats, sure, but it will increase them a bunch, especially right after classups, so I think that one is a good contender and almost a must have. Her skeleton hero is always amazing, something of that level or of the book will always be wort having I am imagining/assuming, so Chaos Stone sounds great. Emerald Cypher would give her an advantage with the new system, though if she can find a manual or something, it would not be required. If it allows her to read runes it might be another major contender though. Citrinitas is useful, but classless skills are mostly rather meh so far, although as seen with the one that makes her unable to fall, there exists really good ones. Would require a lot of investment to be worth it, but on the other hand, probably amazing with the right setup. Depends on what she wants to do with it, if she makes a good plan and there are a lot of good general skills we just haven't seen, this one might be the strongest. Mithrium Glass is a shield, useful, but with her runes, it does not seem like the best choice. Adamian Core is great and all, but she already heals quite fast, and I doubt double is enough of a boost most of the time to be worth it. Rubedo's mana regen is useful, but the Diamond Prism probably gives more, so unless you want both, that one seems stronger to me (though that is before taking into account the sunlight ritual and such) Albedo's random immunity is useful but situational since there are so many things to be immune to, and she has a skill that seems to move in the direction of granting such things anyway. Nigredo's usefulness depends on what it does which I am guessing we will get to know in the next chapter. If its effect can be replicated by her rings or other skills it's not a priority. a special skill. and So I think 3 out of Diamond Prism, Chaos Stone, Emerald Cypher and Citrinitas makes the most sense. Depends a lot on the details though.

2023-06-14 09:48:07 +0000 UTCDiamond prism, chaos stone, and Emerald Cypher are the best in my mind. The first gives doubled stat upgrades, the second offers a skill the system classes as “extremely valuable”, and the last lets you read all those ancient spell books no one can read anymore, and possibly even read alien languages.

2023-06-14 07:53:19 +0000 UTCI think Mithrium Glass is good. Sofia has an absurd amount of mana so this will help with her being squishy. Also I think this confirms her angel's bolt can steal divine essence.

2023-06-14 02:58:41 +0000 UTCDiamond seems like a clear take. Rubedo seems like it might be either mostly unnotable or really, really good - it says it gives "10% mana regeneration speed". Not increases mana regeneration speed by 10%, just gives 10% regen speed. That might be a meaningless semantic difference... or it might be a "you regen 10% mana over x time, no matter how much mana you have" in which case it is absolutely bonkers. Also there's the possibility someone mentioned that it might let her regen mana with a rune on, or perhaps even when she goes into demon form? Either way, I feel like the semantics of it not saying that it provides "bonus" mana regen speed, or "increases" mana regen speed, but rather just provides it, might be important.

2023-06-14 01:47:39 +0000 UTCGiven that Mornn has revealed that the random effects are static, I feel like there probably aren't any bad choices here. Which choices are true standouts will depend on exactly how edge questions are handled. Nigredo: No idea what the skill does, hopefully Sen will answer that question. Albedo: Bit of a gamble. Immunity to a damage type would be good, though it would depend on the damage type, immunity to a status effect might well be wasted due to Blessing of the Deep, and most status effects not covered by that just aren't that bad. Citrinitas: Quite good. Most classless skills are fairly lackluster, but there are some real gems, and you get way more choice in these than class skills. It'll depend what classless skills exist and can be evolved in interesting ways, but this is likely to pay off quite well long term. Rubedo: Honestly fairly lackluster. Mana regen in combat isn't a big enough deal, at least in these level ranges, for this to shine, and in most situations Sofia can afford to just wait a little longer. Keep in mind, that Sofia's storage ring already has a half-size version of this effect, and she barely notices it. The sheer rarity of mana capacity and regen bonuses does push a bit toward this, though. Someone speculated this might bypass the mana regen blocking of the runes and/or the apostle form, but given that her ring doesn't seem to do so, I doubt it. Emerald Cypher: Good. Solves an immediate problem, and has good potential for benefits later through learning runic languages, understanding what she finds written in old ruins, and communicating with ancient and powerful beings she encounters. Not to mention long-shots like understanding the language of the system itself or something along those lines. Adamian Core: Good for a normal person, meh for Sofia. More health is good, but health doesn't contribute as much to her survivability as most people. Double health regen is fine, but unless it also applies to construct healing, I don't think it's big enough to be much of a factor. Diamond Prism: Quite good. I suspect this works retroactively on filters already passed, but is only in effect when wearing the crown, so this is basically a scaling stat bonus on the stats Sofia has generally wanted more of. Quite a bit of people's stats seem to come from the filters so this should be quite solid. Chaos Stone: Big gamble, but the system doesn't use words like "extreme power" lightly. Mithrium Glass: Good, but how good will depend on how temporary and how it interacts with VPPV. Does it last long enough to be worth reapplying prophylactically? Will a large built up shield mean it takes 3 hits minimum to finish her off because of VPPV? Also, given the way mana regen scales, this will probably become more and more powerful with later filters. My picks would be Citrinitas, Emerald Cypher, and Mithrium Glass. Diamond is attractive too, though.

2023-06-13 23:50:30 +0000 UTCBased on the Classless skills displayed in Chapter 69 Citrinitas might be the most versatile. Imagine if skills related to Victory or the Deep Lords are classified as classless skills

2023-06-13 20:36:50 +0000 UTCCitrinite, emerald, diamond is my guess for what she takes. The language helps with the draconic which she is going to immediately need, but it can also help with any older runes as long as they are system logged. Classless skill slots can be useful and I see her wanting poker face or something and not wanting to delete others ( this one may not be picked actually. Maybe the chaos one instead) and finally getting stats of a level four hundred if I understood the description right is ridiculous.

2023-06-13 19:11:17 +0000 UTCThe munchkin heart in me tells me Glass, Rubedo, Diamond, what if Rubedo's regeneration sidesteps the mana regeneration block on her cheat death? Even if it's just truly multiplicative instead of also compounding in some esoteric way, it's a bonus that sort of never devalues. Otherwise, I'd lean towards Emerald, Citrinite, andd.. really any of the others. Fun reward puzzle

2023-06-13 18:31:45 +0000 UTCIt occurs to me that she literally might not be able to remember she needs to learn Draconic, lol. It's part of the sealed conversation with Sen, and if Victory is reading her mind she won't be able to remember it.

2023-06-13 18:13:08 +0000 UTCShe's picked up and dropped some throughout the story. Just recently she gave up poker face(?) for sprint. The others for the most part she already had and we were shown when she was still locked up in the temple. Fast reading, way of the fool, etc.

2023-06-13 18:10:30 +0000 UTCHonestly it’s starting to give me anxiety, because I’m getting more and more concerned that Mornn might just troll us all and have Sofia pick and choose the like 𝑜𝑛𝑒 𝑎𝑐𝑡𝑢𝑎𝑙𝑙𝑦 𝑏𝑎𝑑 𝑐ℎ𝑜𝑖𝑐𝑒, and then try to explain it away as an actually good decision when we all know that to be bullshit lol

2023-06-13 17:50:45 +0000 UTCDiamond and Emerald are the two she absolutely needs. Anything else is fine. Just the ability to read and understand different languages is huge. One of the areas Sofia lacks the most is general knowledge and Emerald will almost instantly solve this issue.
Gallagher.563
2023-06-13 17:34:59 +0000 UTCCitrinitas and Diamond are hands down guarantees. Citrinitas completely invalidates emerald because she could take some language comprehension skill and learn fast, and have two slots left over for literally anything else, and the vast amount of her new stats are going to come from filter upgrades, and doubling that is enormous. I would take the Mithraism after that because it synergies with her stats super good.
InfernalDrake
2023-06-13 17:21:26 +0000 UTCPersonally my choice and recommendation for Sofia is Citrinitas, Emerald Cypher, and Diamond Prism. Three entire skill slots (even if only classless) could come in rather handy, and frankly it’d be great if she could keep both her powered up Sprint and her favorite Poker Face lol. Knowledge of all System-registered languages is actually 𝑖𝑛𝑣𝑎𝑙𝑢𝑎𝑏𝑙𝑒, especially if that includes being able to actually read them! I mean, there’s a very good reason that they say “knowledge is power”, and you can only spend so much time and effort learning each individual language before the limits of time and the mortal mind catch up to you at a moment when you might need that information most. Plus, she’s going to need to be able to speak and read Draconic very, very soon lol. Doubled Health and Health Recovery could be absolutely wonderful, and a 10% boost to Mana Recovery could be downright amazing, but those jewels only focus on their respective stat. The stat upgrade that she’ll get from the filter, on the other hand, should cover all of them, and iirc we saw how she got an unbelievable boost in her stats from the last filter upgrade. If Sofia could get a similar or even more powerful upgrade this time around, and then double 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡, it’d be absolutely 𝑖𝑛𝑠𝑎𝑛𝑒. Of these choices, the only one that I would consider worth looking at for alternatives is Citrinitas. Namely in the form of Albedo, Chaos Stone, and Mithrium Glass, with a strong preference for the last two. In fact, upon reconsideration, I’d probably just straight up recommend Mithrium Glass instead, particularly given the aversion Sofia’s shown to randomized skills in the past lol.

2023-06-13 17:16:19 +0000 UTCOkay, let's Analyze this: Nigredo: Without clear explanation what the Skill does, its not worth taking, in my opinion. (Though considering that its given a name, I would assume that she can learn of the effect, contrary to what the chaos stone does) Aside from that [Spell decay] sounds like asome kind of anti-magic skill that causes spells to "decay" as they get closer. If my guess is right, then I would say that the Skill could be a very good aditional layer of defense. (except if it affects Sfias own spells as well. Then its garbage) Albedo: Not worth it in my opinion. She has a bunch of immunities and resistances already. Enough that there would be too much risk of overlap. Though, if non-overlap is guaranteed, it could be actually very worth it. Although both depend highly on how many different immunities there exist across the world. Citrinas: Very basic effect, but this one is an absolute keeper in my opinion. Sure the Skills she can get would all be Classless Skills and thus relatively weak, but the fact that she can choose them herself is worth a LOT. Its the most guaranteed upgrade out of everything. Rubedo: Honestly. It doesn't seem worth it. The effect is simply too small, especially with the [Suns generosity] ritual on hand. Emerald Cypher: Honestly, I'm a little split on this one. On one hand, it seems like a waste, since she could learn most languages if she just puts in a little work. On the other hand, there is also a LOT of potential in this ability. Knowledge is power, and this gives her access to all knowledge. Considering how much time she spends in old ruins, being able to read languages that no one could otherwise translate could be crucial. Or, it might also be that there is some kind of "Dragon-language" that carries some kind of power just by speaking it. The question is, how extensive is the Systems language library, and what is considered a language in the first place. Going by modern standards, we call programming languages, "languages". In that case, could magic ritual circles also be considered a "language"? Its a bit of a gamble, but I think this one is worth it. Adamian Core: Honestly, I'm not sure on this one. On one hand, its extremely powerful. On the other hand, it simply doesn't mesh well with Sofias style. Never mind that her Health isn't her primary resource, Sofia is a backliner. And with VPPV and her Death Runes, she already has enough survivability. Albeit powerful for most, I don't think this one is worth it for Sophia. Diamond Prism: This is another questionable one. For one, its not clear if the effect is retroactive. And for another, it can't really be judged without knowing how many Stats Sofia gets from her Filter Upgrade. Then again, the Vast majority of Sophias Health and Stamina are from Filter Upgarde Stats iirc, so getting this would basically be a better version of the previous one since it also (almost) doubles her Stamina. Most importantly, it can also affect her Mana if she put stats into it. Chaos Stone: It's a Gamble, and that's it. All we know is that its going to be a powerful Skill, but nothing else. Personally, I think the risk of getting something thats simply not useful for Sofia is far too high. And since its even labled with "chaos", there is too much of a risk that it could end up something entirely random. I fear that she could end up with something along the lines of "get 10 times stronger while doing a handstand". Powerful without a doubt, but so "Chaotic" that its not worth it. Mithrium Glass: This one needs a lot more information, mainly on how durable said shields are, but just as important, what "temporary" entails. Do they last 10 seconds? 10 minutes? ten hours? or does temporary mean that they are permanent, but don't recover on their own. Depending on the specifics, this one could be very powerful, or extermely useless, especially with Sofias already great survivability. In conclusion, I would be inclined to "Citrinas" and "Emerald Cypher", with the third depending on the details. Though Diamond Prism would be a strong contender. The only ones I would completely disregard is Rubedo. The effect would be most useful when regenerating in the middle of combat, but most fights are too short for Mana regeneration to play a big role in decding the outcome.
