The nails are actually an alpha mesh, so if you look very closely in game you can see a little transparency (like a real nail). When I was testing them in the normal nail texture slot, I had problems with the custom skins beneath overriding the transparency. I'm not sure why but moving the textures to the ring texture slots fixed it. The ring texture slot is also a bit bigger, so there is more detail there for shine, etc.
