And just saying "This show would've been better if it ended with them discarding all of that" rings untrue to how they really feel about each other. The show treats their feeling as real and complicated, not something to just pushed away as easily. I'd rather have the tension and drama with how have to work through it instead.

This is actually why I think it does this tabooed topic so well, because both of them are very much aware of the social and familial implications, even endangering the balance of their new family. They aren't taking this lightly, while still being teenagers with physical attractions. It's HOW they are approaching this is what's intriguing, and I appreciate that rather than summarily dismissing it as "just gross" or being "Alabama etc." It's not even like how Oshi No Ko has dealt with it, which is far more iffy because they are blood-related.
Basically, it may not be your cup of tea, but the overreaction feels like it's just a shit storm vs what it actually is. You're entitled to your opinion, of course, but I do think it's far more the minority, which is why the finale landed #1 on Anime Corner and majority of people are praising the way the show dealt with this in a mature and respectful way.

but....I've said this same thing multiple times throughout this series that it's different and actually realistic. I don't know why you called me out for things that I've said already about the series. Even with all of that about this show...the main subject (step sibling relationships) isn't something I'm too fond of anyway. It's not something I'm intrigued by or want to see different perspectives. I liked the directing of the show, pacing and was more so interested in if they were actually going to just get together in the end. Step siblings shouldn't act on those weird feelings and this show would've been better if it ended with them discarding all of that, in my opinion.

The story, the tackling of a sensitive and tabooed subject in a mature and respectful manner to the two leads involved by not making it into some fan service or joke or other anime tropes, the cinematography and direction that is more like films by Yasujiro Ozu, Hirokazu Kooreda and Ryusuke Hamaguchi, the incredibly moving OST . Actually, Director Kooreda's films are probably the closest analogy to this with his humanistic approach like in Shoplifters, Monster, Broker, Our Little Sister, Like Father Like Son. So yeah, this isn't your typical adolescent anime, let alone romance anime. This is arthouse indie film that just so happens to be an anime.

Because they tackled the subject of that taboo from a realistic perspective, not trying to be funny or outlandish with anime tropes, but as if this was a real-life drama that real-life people may face, just depicted in animation. They gave the two characters real inner and outer conflict with how they feel against it themselves for the sake of their parents and around people they know in school. Yuta and Saki struggled a lot to fight against their own desires, and even when they finally confessed to each other, it was done with hesitation and a "let's figure this thing out" vs what you may expect from an anime or run-of-the-mill romance, which is to end with a kiss. And this is despite the fact that they really were strangers and only met as late teens when their parents got married. You find way more incest in other shows that depict siscons the way anime tend to do, like with Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian.

ED's reaction and comments for this show is non-stop trash and adolescent cringe. This was so hard to watch.
Absolutely no nuance and understanding on how they tackle a taboo subject in such a grounded and realistic way akin to an arthouse drama vs just some anime. Definitely can tell the theme and direction is too mature for Ed and commenters, who are to be honest, the minority in the anime watchers-at-large. The show gets more accolades and fans than haters.

Such a masterpiece in grounded storytelling, navigating a complicated relationship thrust upon them, directing, VA, cinematography, and OST/music. A 10/10 for me and may just best Makeine as my #1 of the season, pending my watch of that finale. And truly deserve the #1 on Anime Trending as well!
