Question about content
Added 2023-08-01 16:58:12 +0000 UTCSo lately things haven't been going very well, over the past several months there's been a steady decline and i'm not sure what to do. The content hasn't changed much and i feel like people might just be getting bored of the art.
If you've already unsubbed or are thinking of it, vote on what you feel may be the biggest issue for you. And as well, let me know your guys' opinions on the content in general

Honestly, I originally came here for the Alts, not canceling my sub anytime soon or anything like that but it kinda sucks to see them so rarely

2023-08-02 16:36:05 +0000 UTCTo elaborate on Gewitter's approach; he has three Discord channels that are accessable to high enough level patrons: one for YCH scene ideas, one for members OCs, and one for general discussion on the whole process. People can make suggestions for themes or scenes they'd like to see characters in in the first channel, Gewitter may pick any of those, recent or backlog (or even a sudden inspiration not suggested) and post the scene blocked out with labels for poses in it and various requirements that the characters in each need (to make it not a nightmare to rework), and members offer which of their characters they might want in which pose. Gewitter will reach out to the members who's characters he likes the idea of including, telling them which pose he thinks they would work well in, and as long as everyone is on board, he starts on the piece in earnest.

2023-08-02 09:32:55 +0000 UTCI don't have a "best" solution, but I can give a suggestion based on what I've seen. I don't know how practical this would be for you since I can't see how many patrons you have from mobile, and I know that some people may think of this idea as not being fair because it's not either purely random or purely democratic, but Gewitter has his setup where patrons can make suggestions, but he still is the one to decide which ones he likes and then draws. There's a bunch of different variations you could do on it, but my main take from it is that people pledge to you as an artist, and it's fair to reason that a large part of that is the artistic liberty you may choose to take on a subject. If people trust your taste in how to shape a piece, I'd suggest they should trust your taste in what suggestions you get spark your inspiration. I think that could be more fulfilling to you, and that would come out in the art, hopefully drawing in more patrons. Plus as people get a feel for what suggestions you tend to gravitate to, while some may leave because that doesn't cater to their tastes, it reinforces your artistic identity, which future patrons would be able to clearly see and know what they're signing up for, and thus be more likely to stay.

But even though there hasn’t been that kind of content in awhile, your style and quality was enough for me to rise to a golden bird regardless, where I’ll stay as long as possible.

2023-08-01 23:45:06 +0000 UTCI love the art, but yeah, despite how many characters are up for vote every time you put up a poll, it's clear the same few choices end up winning the vast majority of the time. As others have said, simply removing characters from the polls if they've been drawn recently or frequently would be a good way to add variety and entice new people.

2023-08-01 23:38:23 +0000 UTCMy suggestion is to have an exclusion list that characters go on after having won the poll multiple times, to allow for more variety. After a certain number of polls, excluded characters could be removed from the exclusion list at your discretion. You could also do polls for themes or variants instead of or in addition to polls for characters.

Art by committee ends up inherently watered down, and after so many rounds of votes where stuff that is most recognizable wins, rather than potentially interesting but largely unheard of characters, some patrons might get discouraged. The race to submit ideas for the poll also may have a competitive feeling also that may feel like it is antithetical to "why they pay to have input" with their pledge. The "first X suggestions go up" model doesn't really work for a multi timezone platform

But there are times when people don’t have enough spare money to keep subbing, I do love huge bird but the downside for me is that the overrated characters get chosen every time in the poll. Other artists do the same thing with the polls, I don’t suggest a character bc it will just get defeated by the overrated ones. I do understand people don’t want underrated characters bc it doesn’t appeal to them or find them hot but it would be nice to see something new every now and then. But again! Your art is amazing and lovely!

I also agree with Felks Darkhan where I have voted for new things I would love to see like giratina when that was introduced but almost was immediately out voted because of your bee OC(can't remember name rn lol) which I like the OC and all but I wanted to see new characters and potentially get a new favorite. Also as another small thing along with a new character poll just a poll for less drawn characters like my favorites rn is ankha and kindred and I'm happy they got drawn and kindred had a animation but they have only had one style drawn for them and ankha was drawn in 2020 I would love to have 2-3 images for them and some people may be like me but want it for other lesser used characters.(just completely read Felks Darkhan post and just now realized he mentioned lesser drawn characters)

2023-08-01 19:02:39 +0000 UTCHonestly the only thing I feel could be done is simply just do other characters. Like everything you do now is amazing, I always look forward to see your next piece. Maybe when doing character polls for your next piece only have characters that haven’t been done yet or in a long while. So you avoid drawing the same characters since people vote often for the same ones (although this does show that people very much like what you’ve been doing and want more).

It's the reason why I reduced my tier here, at least. For a long while I was content to support you 10 a month, but as time went on I found other artists who hit my sweet spots better. I'm at a point where I can't support another artist without reducing or cutting off another, or risk stepping over my budget.

Maybe you could try out small comics? Other than that, maybe adding a tier were you could add the character of a patreon as a cameo on the art you draw could attract people as well.

If there's one thing I noticed however, is that your art does not invoke the same level of excitement in me than other art of the same classification. I can't really describe it. Maybe I think of your art of higher quality and the focus is more on that than the the fact that the characters are mostly naked and intended to get people excited. It's difficult to describe. I am conflicted about the post. On the one hand I would like to suggest something, but on the other I don't like telling those I am subscribed to what to do. That's all up to you. When you only do what others tell you it can quickly become a chore. Unless what you are currently doing has already become a chore to you. In such a case you might want to simply try something new. Completely different than what you have done before. But whatever you may think about, never hesitate to act on it. (Otherwise you end up like me and sit still for many years) For example, have you ever thought about making a Comic?

So it's safe to assume most of them skipped though it?

I really like your Pokémon you’ve drawn as it’s always interesting to see how you interpret them. Maybe polling people’s favorites and doing something with them? Or taking the least favorite and reinventing them to becoming the favorite. Either way I’m happy to continue supporting you.
