Billy hand wandered through the mall for 30 minutes with no luck. No clothes, no food, no shoes not tools. This place had been abandoned for too long and picked clean. He finally found out that he was somewhere just across what used to be the Louisiana border from Texas. That was good and bad. This area of the Southern Protectorate was kind like the old wild west. After the uprising in 30 years ago, it was one of the pockets of land that never really recovered. If you weren’t in one of the major metro areas, it was more like every man for himself. Good news, not many cops, bad news some people were armed to the teeth. Billy smirked to himself as he rounded a corner and started walking down a dim corridor, he could handle some fucking hicks with guns if he was smart, and Billy though of himself as being very smart. He was trying to decide on whether he would try to wait the night out here or try to shadow a road into town or near somewhere he could take what he needed.
Billy was so in his head that he was two steps into an area of broken glass under his bare feet that it wasn’t until he felt the first cut that he looked down the dim light to see the twinkle of broken glass. “Fuck!” He yelled as he tried to step away from the glass only to cut his other foot as well. “Ahhh!” he breathed out as he limped away from the pool of broken glass he had stepped in twice. He made it far enough into the central area of the mall that he could sit down and look at his feel. If it wasn’t for bad luck, he wouldn’t have any at all, Billy thought. Looking at the bottom of his feet Billy saw he had several small pieces of glass piercing his feet. Pulling them out he saw they were something like safety glass. Not sharp enough to slice too deep, but sharp enough to make him freaking bleed!
Damn It! It was all he needed. They never let them wear shoes at the prison he had been at. They even transported them barefooted. Billy was thinking about going back to that kids clothing store and use some of those remnants to clean his feet and make bandages. That’s when he heard the rumble of that freaking massive armored SUV. The sound of if was growing closer. Paused and listened as he could hear the massive engine rumble as the truck seems to circle around the area Billy was in. He had a real bad feeling about whomever was in that armored SUV. That was not something your local yocal drove. No plain jane cop. This wasn’t a safe place to stay hidden. Bill stood up started walking then running to the opposite side of the mall and finding his way out. He had to keep running…
