Development Talk

So I'm going to start introducing you all next month to some of the other projects we've got in development! They won't be huge posts just yet but maybe little introductions to some we've accumulated a lot of art for as we work on them between projects.

The two of us are always work-shopping ideas for our Next Thing. There are a few we've got some work on but we're honestly just waiting for another thing to clear up on our plate before we can get to work on it 'full throttle'. It helps keep us sane in between projects. Right now we're just about to start work on Augustine Chapter 2 and a bit of a Marketing Campaign for the comic to pull a few more readers in--but for a couple weeks we had a bit of 'downtime' after finishing Paint The Town Red Volume 3 and Augustine Chapter 1 AND Lost Time. We took a bit of a break but for us a 'bit of a break' comes with 'hmmm but what if we also wrote a story about--' (we just can't be stopped-- though this IS our full-time job so hey).

As I'm typing this just now, here are some of the other projects we've been chipping away at over the course of several years/months haha....;;;

The Farewell Tour -- A oneshot sci fi-romance graphic novel about a rockstar space bee and a bounty hunter space lizard who fall in love. Its a bit T4T (if you can call it that with aliens??) Its gross and tragic and heartwarming all in one if we get it right! This project is probably our most favourite currently-- the two of us are absolutely head over heels for these characters.

--

The Myth about Myths 2.0 -- If you've been following me (Winter) personally for a while this will not be much of a new title. Its a visual dictionary of mythological characters (gods, heroes, humans). I'm working on a redux of Greek Mythology-- mostly so it can be printed a lot cheaper in black and white and I can really let myself go on character design in a way I was holding back on in 2014... (Societal gender norms yadda yadda).

--

The Curse of Blackwood Manor -- Tas' new graphic novel about a human girl who visits her girlfriend's monster family. Big themes of acceptance and the awkwardness of being 'the first queer couple' in a very straight family--its based a lot on personal experience whoops! Right now it's on the scripting stage but once we get the green-light to start the artwork it'll become a bit more priority in our roster (and is a little bit the reason we're taking a bit of a break on Paint The Town Red)

--

Moonshine, Heartbreaker, Wildcard -- a series of three illustrated short stories that all tell the same story through each character's different point of view... who is telling the truth? Who is the real reliable narrator?-- I've had this idea in my back pocket since 2017 and finally wrote the first draft of Moonshine last year! They're a bunch of messed up little queers, its a love-triangle turned polycule and they're all just awful. It's a bit of a dark-humour type rom-com.

--

Dromia -- Is Tas' big come-back to prose after years of comics. Its a creature-type story (think Guardians of Ga'Hoole & Warrior cats but for older teens/ young adults). It follows a small-town raptor who gets pulled into an exciting adventure, only to find our her mother was deep into things she really shouldn't have been. Tas is on a first draft right now and worried that its a bit too ~weird/out there~ for our audience but its good. Its really good. Never thought I would be into lesbian dinosaurs but here I am.

--

[there's no art for this one bc its just prose]

Myth Retold: ICARUS -- I've told a few folks I'm working on the next Myth Retold!  And that it's ICARUS. I was struggling for a while on where I wanted to take it but I think now I'm on a better direction. I should be able to knock a proper first draft out soon/before Tas has me inking Blackwood.

We have plenty of others we've also tossed around but these are currently the stories the two of us are drawn to & working on the most on the sidelines.

Worth mentioning, also is we're working on a bit of a social media campaign for Augustine since we've been struggling for a while and got a couple tips from a friend.

Augusteenies -- is not going to replace Augustine by a long shot but it's going to be a series of short 'newspaper' comics we post on social media to get folks intrigued by the characters and (hopefully) read the actual comic we're working on! We'll be posting those here first too. We have a few strips done so far and it's just been extremely fun creating 'behind the scenes' gags of our intrepid cast and filling out some of their characters and backstory that might not have fit entirely in the main comic!

SO UM!!! YEAH!! Cheers to all of this coming at you in the next little while! Let us know if any of these sparks a specific interest! We're always curious what you think!
