Aak Daar Dovah, Fent Zu'u? Niid. Ch 20
Added 2026-01-04 15:49:46 +0000 UTCHere you all go! Stayed up overnight to get this done. Holidays were far more eventful than I'd expected, but them's the works. Sorry about that. We're back to our normal scheduling.
As usual, you can offer corrections/thoughts in the document, or use the PDF attached if you need to see big font or something.
Thank you all for being here.
The first day of the tournament where Ysmir gets to participate. What can we expect? Maybe what you would have. Maybe not. You tell me if you were surprised. Oh, also, the first obvious appearance of an As Thanks character.
Enjoy.

Really enjoyed the conversation between Rhaena and Ysmir. I wonder if his nickname, Dragon of the North, is widely known yet. I'm also wondering her reaction once Aerea recognises him as the guy who wrestled the conqeror's dragon lol Anyways, don't think she'll be open about hiring him after that confession yet

2026-01-05 19:59:28 +0000 UTCman I love the writing for Ysmir. just this story almost makes up for the countless others ive read where the supposed "inhuman" protagonist acts like the average Joe you'd meet down the street

2026-01-05 12:01:29 +0000 UTCI was so worried that the cliffhanger was going to cut in right as he reached the tent. Glad to see we got to see a bit of the convo even if we still have some suspense with Ysmir putting his whole leg in his mouth at the end. Super excited for the next chapter! I am kinda curious on where Coryanne is. I initially didn't think Rhaena would have done anything with her since she didn't seem to know much about her specifically when talking to Alysanne, but she was involved with the incident so maybe she had her distracted to prevent any misunderstandings about why they were at the tent (and also to get a more honest interaction without worrying about Coryanne helping cover for Ysmir's blunders). Alysanne did leave at a convenient time to have requested a meeting to talk about things as well. That or her doing something to communicate with her sister are my main suspicions. I was also doing some wiki diving and came across some threads that I am curious if they will get pulled on in this story. For one, apparently there are wild dragons that should be on dragonstone right now including a Cannibal Dragon. Ysmir might be able to have some fun if he visits Dragonstone eventually. The other one was from rereading the Azor Ahai prophecy wording. It specifically mentions waking dragons from stone. The only options I can think of are 1) The eggs waking up early as I had thought earlier, 2) More metaphorically awakening the dragons to language and personality, 3) some pun with dragonstone

2026-01-05 00:52:05 +0000 UTCThe more Rhaena knows, the more she is going to feel threatened by Ysmir’s existence, so I’m curious as to how he can possibly put her worries to rest. After all, it will become apparent very soon that if he wished her dead in that tent, her meager guard couldn’t have stopped him. That’s without holding the knowledge of his dragon speak, which I’m sure would bring much fear into her heart. It’s unfortunate, but despite his desire to bring a smile to this beauty’s face, he’s probably going to cause her a lot of stress. Thanks for the chapter!

2026-01-04 18:37:14 +0000 UTCDamn. Will this escalate I wonder? I'm curious what her goal was with this conversation. From Rhaena's perspective she probably thinking Ysmir is just another bold opportunist, who may be hoping to steal himself some dragon eggs or something. I think if she leaves right at this moment this is going to set the wrong tone for their relationship going forward. If he tells her the truth "I want to fight them", she's just going to think he's insane, until he actually does it, but it's better than suspicion and distrust. And she doesn't really have any reason to believe his words or follow up on them, since she's too arrogant to believe anything could threaten her dragons other than another dragon (if only she knew lol). Speaking of that arrogance, I wouldn't put it past her to have done something to Coryanne in preparation for this conversation, as some sort of intimidation tactic or power play. It's not like she's known for being a level headed diplomat. That would also, sour the tone of their relationship in the future. Does she know about who Coryanne is to Alysanne? I don't remember that scene but I'm not sure if Alysanne gave her explicit details.

2026-01-04 16:40:11 +0000 UTCYeah, I waffled on that a bit, but there was more to be said and there is like, a scene transition that should occur, but the chapter would get big if I flipped it the other way around and instead included that here, so it's like, wonky not to tell that whole perspective switch out if I do that, and then now we're in THIS CHAIR instead. Difficult stuff. We'll see how I feel over the next day though!
