2024-10-17 21:20:42 +0000 UTCNow that we've gotten here, a little context: We find out in the side stories (as well as comments from Mark) that Benno's fiancee also died of the Devouring. However, she had such a small amount of mana that she was able to live until she came of age, which makes it so much more tragic. Benno had just lost his father and had to take over the business, and the guildmaster offered to marry Benno's mother. When she refused, the guildmaster kept interfering with Benno's family to the point that Benno's other sister had to move to a different district, and was pushing Corinna to marry the guildmaster's son. When Benno's fiancee died, the guildmaster pushed Benno to marry one of his daughters. So that's why there's a LOT of bad feelings for the guildmaster where Benno's concerned.
