Well pat of this is because the anime is a bit blurry with distances and time passed ... but the 100 Knights that ransacked the town returned to the main army ... while the 3 otherwolders were sent to the western camp of the Church Knights to block anyone from fleeing to Blumund. with the anime skipping a few thing this may not be apparent but Megiddo is a result of Rimurus journey. He learned summoning magic during his trip to the human lands. And learned how you can use spirits to create natural forces/processes from Ramiris when she explained the colossus Add to that some scientific knowledge from the modern world the computation capacity of the Great Sage argumented by Rimurus unique physique And this is a result Water spirits gathering water from the surrounding creating water lenses and mirrors focusing and directing the sunlight into laser beams

This would have been the best or highest-ranking of candidates since there was quite a bit of competition to be in this army. And they would have been the closest to a standing army. Not too many ordinary people forced into service, if any. The battle-hardened guys you saw in the encampment first were the mercenaries. And they spent a bit of time demonstrating how scummy various enemies were.

2022-12-25 00:47:59 +0000 UTCBtw it never gets explained in the anime but now that you've seen it, a fun fact is that what Rimuru does here "Meggido" is actually a custom spell of his own creation (well, his idea, great sage handled the execution). It's essentially a working Archimedes Death ray. It's incredibly mana efficient, essentially just using water controlled by lesser water spirits to create small concentrated beams of sunlight that work like lasers. What's so terrifying about it is because the actual attack isn't magic but physics, most barriers in this world designed to stop magical attacks are completely useless against it. It's just a beam of light with no magical properties, so it cuts through soldiers and knights, even those with enchanted armor like a hot knife through butter. It's only possible because of great sage's insane calculation abilities.

After their attack on Tempest the 100 Knights retreated back to the main Army, while Rimuru sat infront of the corpses of Shion, Gobozo and the ~100 dead for 3 days, mourning and searching for a way to bring them back.
