Overlord to me does it in a way that makes sense, a maxed out, decked out Video game character would be ridiculously OP for any number of reasons, but the show also presented a plethora of interesting problems that he couldn't (or rather didn't) brute force his way through. Its not that slime is a bad show, I just think its rather boring. in OPM/MHA, the answer to the problems isn't always just 'punch', in slime the answer to any question DOES seem to be just 'eat'. its a comedy so it gets a bit of a pass, I'm just explaining to AJ my issues with the show more specifically, since he already knew I wasn't a fan but I held my tongue on the reasons why to avoid spoilers.

Its like being upset that the main villain in a lot of non DC/Marvel super hero franchises usually has the power to absorb anyone else's powers and add them to their own, exactly like the unique Predator skill. When you can absorb anything and its abilities you do have a Swiss army knife of things you can whip out for any situation. Same as Kirby, or main characters from the Heroes TV show, or All for One in My Hero Academia. Its also a bit of a trope in isekai for the main character to be utterly OP in the new world.

2020-12-16 22:16:19 +0000 UTCThis episode is kind of why I am a bit down on the show, Slime is not just overpowered in Combat, which would be a little bothersome when you don't START like that (Ainz, for example, it makes sense why he's overpowered) But he is a living Batman Utility belt, he just always seems to have the right thing at the right time and can solve any issue effortlessly without draw back. The Swords thing was kinda the tipping point for me, personally. Glad you're into it though, it is a more fun light hearted anime I guess, and that can be fun.
