When a monster is named it causes that monster to be stronger because it is taking Magicules from the “master”(person that named that monster) and putting them into the named monster. A human can name a monster and that monster will be stronger. A god can name a monster or add a name to a human and make them stronger. The dragon gave rimuru his name which made rimuru stronger. The dragon said that names are a big deal. It has to be from a stronger being to a weaker being though. God->Monster or human. Human-> monster. Strong monster-> weak monster Is what i think anyway, Idk if anybody can explain exactly what the real reason is.

2020-12-10 02:30:50 +0000 UTCDragon Quest is literally a huge inspiration so that is exactly what kind of feeling this show should inspire. Eventhe music is very Dragon Quest esque. The idea of slimes being super weak is ripped straight from it as well. Rimuru being a strong slime is just part of the joke toward Dragon Quest.
