lol its like you forgot all about the end of season 3 and finally seeing what was in the basement and the whole 2-3 episodes after that that showed there was a whole other "world" beyond the wall where theres still advanced (more advanced then what Eren and the group have any) technology lol. Also forgot thathe Maley people treat the Eldians like slaves apparently too. Remember that whole scene of the past of Eren's dad where a certain someone was turned into dog food? The Eldians there (except the kids cause their brainwashed) are not there because they want to be theyre there because theyre FORCED to be. Thats why they look like theyre about to shit themselves. They LITERALLY didnt sign up for that... just like certain others didnt sign up to be tossed off of walls in turned into titans/titan food.

Just to clarify, the war shown in the episode is NOT against the people of the wall (I.e. Eren and the gang) but rather another country on the mainland. Remember that the wall people (who we've been following for the last 3 seasons) are on an island but the war taking place is happening on the "mainland" so that's why we don't see many familiar faces. As someone pointed out before, they mentioned the reason the war started was due to the perceived "weakness" of the Marlyians when they lost the colossal titan (Bertholt) and the female titan (Annie). Hope that clears some stuff up!!

Also AJ the reason the 4year war started is because the world found out the lost Colosal titant, and wanted to take Marley on. It was said in the episode.

Yep dont blame u, i didnt even notice till now cause the character is older and has different features, so when i first read that part I didnt recognize said character. Only reason I even knew now was cause ive been reading the manga for a while and so after seeing this episode I immediately spotted him this time since im used to how he looks

PyroPhoenix

really? Now im going have to rewatch again it must of been real quick because i thought i was paying attention like crazy haha

Aj Rich

Second, you did see someone from the main crew 👀 no not reiner and zeke but someone else. Not gonna say when cause u may or may not figure it out just by staring at the character but he is in there lolol its funny cause I just now realized the character is in there, i didnt realize when i was reading that part of the manga

First, Marley HAD 7 titans during the great titan war. Right now you have to remember that they only had 7, they were missing the founding and attack titan. They then lost the colossal and female titan so 7-2= 5. Marley only has 5 titans left

Just so you know, there's a recap movie they made that covers the bullet points of all three seasons if you need a refresher. It's on Funimation, and it's called Attack on Titan: Chronicle. No need to react to it. There's no new content in it. I watched it, and I can say it at least did its job as a recap.

Gestrid

Yeah, we don't know how many episodes there will be in the second half of the season as the manga isn't finished yet

Mad

I'm fairly certain the 1st part of the season will be 16 episodes, and the 2nd part is TBD. Thanks for uploading this so early & I'm pumped for the rest of the season!

Kaedjik

What a strong start to the season! The hype is real

Just wanted to help out a bit with the confusion (not your fault, this episode throws a lot at you at once) without spoiling anything that hasn't been talked about yet. First I can help with the timeframe; the 4 year war started almost right after the big action setpiece of season three where the collossal titan was killed and Zeke, Reiner, and the Cart titan have to return to Marley defeated. Basically with marley down 2 titans (as they mentioned, Female and Colossal were lost during their paradis island operation) to only 5, other nations on the continent perceived weakness. In addition technology in the outside world has advanced to as you see somewhere around WWII levels if translated to our world, and a coalition of nations called the Mid-East alliance (their outfits and 'mid-east' allude to them being a parallel to the ottoman empire) decided that they could take on Marley and overcome the advantage of titans with military technology. This episode showed the last battle of that war and the important takeaway is yes Marley won... but it's become very clear to the world that titans are not invincible anymore. That means from a strategic perspective Marley "lost" because their position as a world superpower is in serious jeopardy. And don't worry, we'll see the main cast soon enough...
