In the episode they said fire users of her generation cant create their own flames like a 3rd gn (shinra and aurthur) can, so they need a source of fire already around for them to manipulate... so yes she did use their own attacks as they were a source of fire already around. (thats also why she carries lighters and matches, to make fire so she can use her powers if theres no flames around)
