-Blackbeard is not well-known. Ace knew him because Blackbeard was part of Whitebeard's 2nd division(Which Ace was the commander of).
-"Hige" is the only word for beard, moustache, whiskers in japanese so "Shiro+Hige" Can be translated as White+beard, moustache, whiskers.

Probably doesn’t hurt to rewatch episodes like this on your own just to help absorb all the info and new people! Great reaction!!

Suggestion: watch the introduction of the Sages again they are mentioning the Balance of the great Powers implying that the Warlords are in (which all have animals connected to them so gar).
Also the Red and whitebeard are mentioned to meet and is implied to be on the same level as whitebeard beeing both huge names. Also the Messenger of shanks has a 95m Bounty beeing called a small fly by whitebeard.
Also also reread the real Name of Blackbeard and Look for an obvious hint why he may be kinda like Luffy (keeping Robin in mind when she rescued Luffy him asking about his name).
Btw sorry for typos got a new Phone...

Blackbeard is the guy who attacked Chopper's kingdom and drove the king away! But don't worry AJ, your memory is better than mine already, I only got this connection after rewatching these episodes through your reactions

Seeing that hype from somebody realizing just how connected everything is in one piece, and seeing a bit of it unraveling is truly amazing. Gotta love that big smile and geek out. It's moments like these that make you want to dig deeper into the lore and just discuss the show with people to no end :)

To explain the "Whitebeard" "Blackbeard" thing:
In Japanese their names are "Shirohige" (Shee-roh-hee-geh) and "Kurohige" (Kuh-roh-hee-geh) respectively, "Hige" being the Japanese word of any kind of facial hair...so it still sort of fits for them.

Ace knows Blackbeard because he was Ace's subordinate, until he killed his fellow crewmate and ran away. That's why Ace is hunting him.

You can expect the show to get better, yes :D

HOOOO boy there's a lot in this episode lol You got most of the info, but I'll mention a couple things (spoiler free as always) I'm impressed that you remembered Blackbeard's mentioning back from the Chopper mini arc. Yeah Ace mentioned that he's after Blackbeard because Blackbeard used to be on Whitebeard's ship under Ace's command, but suddenly killed another member and left the group. Why he did that is unknown right now, but it explains why Ace cares about him specifically while no one else knows him. The other thing I'll mention is that the Japanese name "Whitebeard" actually means "White Facial Hair" Same with Blackbeard. I don't think they have a word for Mustache or Stubble like we do

To summarize what has happened in the second half of 151, since there's lots of moving parts and it's important to keep notes on this--
- Shanks sends a message to Whitebeard via his newest nakama, Rockstar, discussing Ace and Blackbeard.
Whitebeard guesses what the letter is about then tears it up and demands "that red-haired brat" comes in person and brings some good booze.
- Rockstar contacts Shanks via den-den mushi and informs him on what happened.
Shanks is amused, and decides to go in person with some booze.
His crew prep for battle, expecting to clash with government forces.
- The Gorosei (5 Elder Stars), the top executives of the World Government, are discussing recent intelligence that came in about Shanks contacting Whitebeard.
This is disturbing to them as they consider both of those pirates formidable, and a potential clash would upset "the balance of the Three Great Powers"
- The second point dicussed in their meetings was about how they need to have the Navy find a replacement for Crocodile in the Shichibukai.
They are opening a file on Luffy, and view him as a problem.
- It then cuts to a meeting between the Navy and whoever deems to show up from the Shichibukai.
We meet Bartholomew Kuma, a Warlord.
We meet Donquixote Doflamingo (who demonstrates a strange ability)
We meet Great Tactician Tsuru, a vice admiral.
We meet the Chief Admiral/Fleet Admiral, Sengoku the Buddha.
- In the Navy x 7 Warlords meeting, they're discussing Crocodile's replacement.
Lafitte shows up and submits his captain Blackbeard's name for consideration.
Sengoku states that he's not heard of him, so how would a pirate whose name has no clout be useful in suppressing other pirates?
Lafitte replies that they've got a plan in motion that will address this.
- It then cuts back to Mock Town, where Blackbeard finds Luffy's wanted poster and sees that his bounty is 100mil.
He decides to target Luffy. By taking down Luffy, he'll qualify himself to become one of the 7 Warlords.

I haven't been following this reaction series since east blue, but I refuse to pass up an opportunity to someones reaction to Luffy engraving his fist into Bellamy's skull. That is definitely one of the most satisfying moments in any anime.

The translation for Sengoku's moniker as "Saint" is incorrect. It's more accurate to say "Sengoku the Buddha"

Blackbeard was in the Whitebeard Pirates working under Ace, killed a crewmate and fled. He gathered 4 people and ripped through Drum Island, causing Wapol to flee with the doctors. Ace starts hunting Blackbeard, visits Drum Island, and leaves a message for Luffy. Luffy meets Wapo's crew at sea, travels to Drum to cure Nami, and finally meets Ace in Alabasta. Luffy defeats one of the warlords and now Blackbeard is looking to fill the position. This chance meeting that took place a couple of episodes has been a long time coming ^^

You're definitely right. That's what I like about One Piece. To me, OP is more of the story of how the world progress (towards the 'new era' so to speak), with Luffy's adventure as it's progenitor. It's no surprise to me at this point of how great GOda's skills is at building a fictional world.

Blackbeard is basically Luffy if Luffy was a real pirate. If Ace wasn't Blackbeard's enemy, him and Luffy could've been great friends.

I know Whitebeard' name is a little miss directing since he doesn't have a beard he has a mustache, but that's because his name in Japanese is Shirohige, and that directly translates into white facial hair, so it doesn't sound as cool as Whitebeard so everyone calls him that instead

Certainly this is a great episode and it is interesting to see someone seeing and discovering all this things for the very first time. Be sure that you are going to enjoy One Piece because all of this is literally nothing compare to what awaits you.

Everything in 151 is important. They're setting up massive plotlines later on. Later on the reveals will be even bigger. Before hand mostly everything was self contained. If you think this is hard...wait till you're in episode900 and characters from 600 episodes ago become huge again. Oda doesnt forget characters
