There are some one piece filler episodes that are half filler and half canon like the calm belt part in an earlier episodes. So yeah, there are some fillers that aren't really bad enough to skip if you enjoy one piece enough honestly. But that's just my take on it.

You got the message behind it 100% And I agree that One Piece really handles the characters well and gives you the sense that they all have an important role to play. That stays true for the show all the way through. The only thought I had was to point out that Luffy was talking about the decision Vivi made once they learned that the Rebels were no longer in Yuba. She was only risking her life by deciding to talk to Koza, asking the crew to simply follow her around while she does all the important work with the rebellion. She never at any point asked the crew to help her confront the issue, or Crocodile directly. She wanted to avoid any fighting, including Luffy's fight with Crocodile (Vivi is very afraid of Crocodile) So Luffy calls her out, asks her to trust them with the task of confronting Crocodile, because now that they know the Rebel army is on the other side of the desert, in the opposite direction they've been traveling, the clear option now is to just go to Crocodile. This is more clear when you see the "on the last episode" intros they do, where they map out the area so you know exactly where the crew is, and where the enemies/objectives are. But I think they also explain it in the next few episodes, so I'm excited to see your reaction to those! Great content as always man, sorry for these super long comments lol

They always sprinkle in good story related things, and it gives you more time with the crew, and lets their interactions deepen. This Alabasta filler told a lot of good stuff about the country, and about Ace, showing where he goes and what his goal is right now. Most filler has stuff like this to some degree, Some more than others. I didn't mind you skipping the filler before the entrance to the grand line. You got the time stamps for the important information about the Calm Belt, which is really all there was related to the canon world. I'm sure people are already talking about the "G8" filler, which is a lengthy filler, but actually really loved by a majority of the fans. You'll have to watch that for sure when you get to it. There are a few small filler episodes after Alabasta that I personally enjoy for time spent with the crew, but people might vote to skip those, which is fine too. There's not much canon material in them aside from the crew interaction. But if you end up watching them, I think you'll still enjoy them

They all have their roles on/off battles. And Luffy trust his crew to fullfill their roles as long as he does his part. Him telling Vivi this is to open her eyes from her own naive view and to do the same as Luffy do to his crew. Which is 100% trust
