In my opinion, One Piece is a very well-thought story, and the emotions/reactions of the characters are so real. We always know that Dr.Kureha is a tough love kinda person. So things that she said/unsaid make a lot of senses. I love that when Hiriluk asked her to teach Chopper medicine, she scolded him but she actually didn't say no. Hiriluk understood and that why's he said "I'm counting on you". Then she come and check on Chopper and found out about the mushroom, she didn't doubt Chopper but tell him that he need to learn to become a doctor. I don't think Dr. Kureha did it without caring for Chopper or without believing in him.

i really liked the feature of being able to change the subtitles on netflix. though ive never messed with crunchyroll so maybe they have an option? ill have to look. I didnt realize crunchyroll had the same thing netflix had.

Hey AJ, later check the One Piece Special Edition on Crunchyroll! It seems to be the exact same version thats on Netflix, except they keep the eye-catchers/commercial breaks. Also I want to note these versions zoom in a little so in exchange for a better image you are probably missing a bit of the scene

Any sub that replaces "nakama" with "friend" is bad subs. Nakama means more like being a part of a group, that's working towards a goal, and maybe has done some kind of vow to eachother. It's a bond stronger than bonds with friends, more like siblings or workpartners who work towards a common goal. Coby is Luffys friend, Zoro is Luffys nakama. That's what I think atleast.

At least time heals wounds too.

I have a tattoo on my right shoulder I memory of my late brother and sister. It says β€œ A person dies 3 times β€œ meaning once when their heart stops, once when their name is said for the last time, and finally when the last person to remember them dies

Yeah that tragic mixup of symbology about the skull and bones meaning both piracy and poison made my jaw drop the first time I watched it.

If we look at why these backstories are all sad, we need to think about what it means to join a pirate crew in One Piece's world. If you have a happy childhood, and grow up to become a well adjusted adult, why would you become a pirate? It's an aberration for someone to chose piracy over a "normal" life. You need to have experienced something that makes you seek out your family/community/fellowship with a group of people who've experienced similar things in their lives. And when someone gives you an opportunity to chase your dream, (whether it's finding the One Piece, or All Blue, or just finding treasure and become rich,) you'll leave normality behind to chase it. Many of these crews are like that. Their motivations may vary, but the camaraderie and concept of Nakama ties crews together.

i dont cry easily. you dont have to cry to feel the moment

Sakura have a very poignant and significant and symbolic meaning in Japan. But this is why it's become a trope that school anime use a lot, and that's mainly because they bloom and fall in the spring during the month where the school year ends and begins.

bro how have you not cried yet

dendenmushi

"I think it's the perfect place for him, they all have sad backstories" omg I'm dying xD

Also, talking about favorite episodes I think this one is very good, but my favorite will always be the one Luffy lents his hat to Nami, back on the Arlong arc. Knowing what the hat represents to Luffy makes the scene so emocional!

This episode is definitely one of my favorites so far. There are so many layers to this backstory. Hiriluk tops it off with his speech about being forgotten and passing the torch. He was trying to cure something much deeper than physical illness. They lived in a country with a corrupt king and fearful citizens (the fear inspired by Wapol is probably what puts them on edge to shoot Chopper, and also to shoot at the StrawHats when they first met) Hiriluk wanted to inspire hope, dreams, and the will to live in his country again. Something more than just fear and survival

Dr Hiluluk's words in that episode are some of my favorites, such a good speech πŸ‘Œ

Doctor hililuk is such a guy! He even blew himself so Chopper don't think it was his poison that killed him
