Im sure the humans are humans not monsters. As for why humans would be feeding children to monsters. MY guess is its a "We've taken over your planet and if you want to continue to live you have to feed us all your children" kind of scenario? Im sure theyre not doing it because they WANT to or have a choice... But yeah Im hoping theres some good adults left in the outside world that can help em out. I wont know the answer to that question til season 2 though
