I always wondered why the spirit bomb didn't hit jiren. And i thought of it. It's not only because he is so strong. The spirit bomb is designed to kill evil, eliminate. But in his universe jiren is part of a hero group to defend the humans. Jiren in his universe is a good guy not evil.

When jiren hit goku with those blasts it was just his glare it’s like when he pushed back the spirit bomb he’s just that op all he gotta do is look at u and u done

Jiren used his top-tier energy control to condense and shrink the Spirit Bomb. The reason it was shrinking and expanding earlier was because both their energies were pushing against it. When Jiren took control and forcibly shrunk it, Goku was essentially pushing at full strength against a wall that just got moved. That's why he fell forward into it, then Jiren let go of his control and the Spirit Bomb self-destructed, dealing damage to Goku as he fell towards it

I always thought of the Spirit Bomb as a ball of positive energy. It's always strong but it's strongest against negative energy. Things like Frieza and Vegeta both surviving it tells me that their Pride outweighs the evil in their hearts and that's why they weren't disintegrated like Kid Buu was. Obviously power and plot play roles in those moments but I like to think their was a reason the Spirit Bomb only showed it's full potential by the end of Z with Kid Buu
