I have been waiting to see the teacher rebellion over the head saying no to Charlie's idea. I will admit that I thought Coach Singh would be leading the charge, because we've seen her be very tough with people and with a willingness to take people to task for bad/stupid behaviour. But thinking about it, Mr Farouk makes much more sense, being Charlie's form teacher and having similar feelings of being outcast/different at school and not having anyone to turn to or talk to until much later than Charlie did and the fact he pushed Charlie to go for the position of Head Boy in the first place for precisely this reason. And he just so casually shows not only his support but his willingness to ignore the head by offering the classroom for Charlie's use. Because sometimes you've just got to do what's right and for the best, not what you're told. Plus, it'll also show the head that Charlie's idea has support from more than just a few students, but teachers as well.

2025-10-26 13:30:50 +0000 UTCI can't remember--Is Mr. Farouk out at school (beyond the friend group, Mr. Ajayi, and Ms. Singh)? I'm just wondering, as this scene may be a particularly formative moment for Mr. Farouk, too. He went through most of his life not realizing he was gay (although, as a child, he obviously knew that he was "different" in some way but maybe didn't have the words and/or representations to understand this difference). And unlike Mr Ajayi, who has been out at school since the beginning of Heartstopper, Mr. Farouk has appeared to be less publicly forthcoming--at least at school--with his LGBTQA+ identity and support of queer issues. So I wonder if Alice chose Mr. Farouk for this scene not only because of his forceful/take no shit personality, but also because it's an opportunity for him to more fully come into his power, voice, and advocacy as a gay man--and as the gay adult/ally his younger self needed. To be sure, he started to take these steps when he nominated Charlie to be head boy, but now *he* gets to be the adult version of that head boy.
