The teeny-tiny almost-smiles in the 3rd panel of 1861, followed by Charlie doing up Nick's buttons destroy me. The knowledge that they're end-game is there, but it's dulled by the pain of upcoming separation and the small inkling of doubt that simply exists because we're human.
