I'm really glad this studio is trying out the CGI backgrounds. It takes a lot of money to make an anime and quite frankly innovation and experimentation is required. Most people pirate series(at best they'll watch it on a streaming platform), so it's increasingly hard to make a quality show. The CGI is being tested against because it costs a lot less money to do and they get to focus more on the foreground(The characters). Ufotable does this a lot too where they'll have 3D scenery with 2D characters.
