Roland was a Frankish (old French) warrior from the 8th century. His life and death were later embellished in stories like the "Chanson de Roland" (Song of Roland). Legend says he was the nephew of Charlemagne (the Frankish King and later Emperor) and received from him Durandal, a sword forged by a God and given to Charlemagne by an Angel. Olivier (who seems to have been a real person) was a paladin, and the friend and brother-in-law of Roland. Thank you for the reaction
