BIP#6 - Update on the Sound Guy, Petal Particles, Blender's Render Engines

Yo

Sound Guy will be working on the sound full time again starting on Monday.

He was sick for 2 weeks and had to take care of personal stuff that he couldn't delay.

While the circumstances aren't his fault, I made it clear that the lack of communication is not acceptable and that his misconduct led me telling you guys to support someone else because I do not want you to feel like you're getting scammed.

He sincerly apologized and according to him, there will be no more delays.

Sorry for the mess, guys : /

The scene is basically done, pretty happy with the particle system for the petals and I'm glad I didn't have to spray those all over the place to get a good enough effect while keeping the render times low!

Speaking of render times, I spent most of the week figuring out how to get the best out of Blender's Eevee Render Engine.
It is definitely weaker in terms of realism as opposed to "Cycles" but there are work arounds by placing so called light probes to make the lighting a bit more realistic and avoid "light bleed" (lighting spots on closed off surfaces).
The reduced render time is definitely worth it for a scene with that many entities containing animation data though!

Next step will be blocking out the animation, it's about damn time >: )

I wouldn't go that far as to say he has no empathy since he showed remorse and wanted to make it up to me but I see your point. Maybe I'm too good faith but I think he was just overwhelmed in general. Good question! There are ways to make that happen by converting the particles to a mesh and apply another physics simulation on them so they will collide with the models. Hope that doesn't overwrite the animation data though D: This scene and the Mai Model especially don't look full on realistic to me. Pretty much every material use color gradients/hand painted textures instead of realistic materials which use real life photography. I could go for a more anime-style/cartoony appearance for the grass and water for example but that's not what I really meant with "less realism". Maybe "simplistic" is the right term? Dunno haha :D This is a realistic forest made in Blender for example: https://ibb.co/gFT9dTdZ (source Covingsworth)

Won't lie, I've seen plenty of younger folks in their first jobs have similar communication problems. It's hard for people, especially while working online, to keep people updated on progress. Ever since Covid, I've learned that it's better to over-update than keep your coworkers in the dark. Being silent after missing deadlines demonstrates a severe lack of empathy though... As for the petals, will they ever land on the characters during a scene? Also, although I have no knowledge about art direction, I thought you were going for something with less realism this time?

The scene looks beautiful. Very dream like. The bottom of the bridge should have darker shadows io
