The establishment of the New Republic was not a panacea to the challenges which arose from the defeat of the Empire. Crime, corruption, and the influence of powerful Imperial remnants began to flourish where the fledgling galactic government was stretched thinnest. Bound by strict protocols even where it possessed the manpower to enforce the law, however, the New Republic struggled in nearly every region of the galaxy to maintain the peace and stability that its predecessor forced upon its citizens with an iron fist.
Few knew the extent of the latent turmoil, as well as the boundless frustration which came with finding solutions, better than General Hera Syndulla. Bureaucracy and peacetime exercises were a far cry from the daring operations she undertook with the Spectres and the greater Rebel Alliance. Worst of all, her new position severely restricted her flight time.
When her duties permitted, though, Hera would privately seek out the company and counsel of the Jedi outcast Ahsoka Tano, who had taken former Spectre Sabine Wren as an apprentice and whose connection to the Force was always a pleasant reminder of her late lover and the father of her son.
No one's quite sure what those meetings between them looked like. Though Sabine noted that the two almost always seemed in high spirits afterward. And that every single Republic bodyguard accompanying General Syndulla looked absolutely exhausted after his night watch assignment.

Coincidentally, I'll probably be heading to a Star Wars Rebels cast reunion panel this weekend. Didn't even plan on it before last week. I guess I'm gonna have to completely blank this image from mind while that's going on?
