Daily Short: Kyo 27

Kyo had always been on the shorter side, and she was tired of being overlooked. That was why she was within her lab, preparing to carefully mix a potion. The recipe should, in theory, make her taller over time. She had recently dreamed of being taller and more noticeable, so she decided to create a potion that would do just that.

Assisted by the laboratory vines she gathered all the ingredients she needed for her potion, including rare herbs, crushed gemstones, and a pinch of catnip. Just because catnip was a controlled substance in the Lion’s territory didn’t mean it wasn’t usable. She mixed them all together in her cauldron and chanted a spell over the mixture using her space magic to assist.

As she stirred the potion, she could feel the delicate balance of chemicals and magic mixing. It took a mere thirty minutes for the potion to complete. After siphoning out a small test tube she looked askance at the substance. Electric green?

Shrugging she downed the small test tube. Within seconds she found herself growing taller and taller. "Yes!" she exclaimed, "It's working!" She enjoyed her newfound height which required only two steps on the stepping stool now instead of three!

But just as she was about to celebrate her newfound height, she suddenly started to shrink! Her fur became fluffier and her body became smaller and smaller until she was a head shorter than before. Kyo couldn't believe what had happened. She had spent so much time and effort on her potion, only to end up shorter than before! She hung her head in despair.

“Oh? I was just checking in on the magical surge I felt.” Nota said appearing abruptly. “Correct me if I’m wrong but weren’t you taller at breakfast?”

Kyo burst into tears sobbing incoherently, “I just wanted to be taller! I just wanted to taste twice-fried sausages without using a step stool to cook! Why is the world against me, Big Sis?”

“Now, now. If you are short that just means you need a potion that will help in other areas. I wouldn’t do anything without Kudzu though, he can pinpoint where this attempt went wrong.” Nota said patting her on top of her now electric green fluffy furry head. “I must say, changing the color of your fur seems to be a habit dear.”

Mustering her courage Kyo didn't give up. She knew that she could still make something of herself, even if she was small. After consulting with Kudzu on the weekend she was promptly informed that the shortness would fade over a few years. Years…ugh!

So, she worked with Kudzu and used her alchemy skills to create a new potion, one that would give her a powerful voice and commanding presence. If she couldn’t be tall, she would order around those who were! Money could make even the tall ones grind the millstones!

Right as she quaffed the new potion, the garden informed her that Talos had returned. She rushed out to meet the bigger cat, eager to meet her cook once more!

Teleporting to the mansion’s front gate she was swept up and brought to eye level. “Weren’t you taller?” Talos asked confused. “Has working in that lab made you shorter?!”

Kyo gave Talos a betrayed expression. How could someone so good at cooking be so insensitive!

She glared for a good few seconds before teleporting to the kitchen table. There was no need to say anything further, all grievances could be repaid in meat!
