Daily Short: Matt 17

ACT NaN-X-6

“You’re looking very shadowy, sir,” Jeeves said after cleaning up the trash. Body disposal was simply a matter of throwing them into the Abyss.

Ugh,” Matt said in annoyance. Shedding the mortal form came with great power but many restrictions. Intervention in lower Tiers was straight out until he rebuilt his body. Without a human shell, everything was so much more irritating.

“Shall I call the Dark Bank, sir?” Jeeves said, brushing non-existent lint off his sleeves.

Do it. Purchase out the contract for one of the spares.” Matt said with a sigh. It wasn’t the first time he had shed his mortal form. It would just be one of the most expensive times.

Jeeves bowed and shunted himself into the Abyss to travel faster.

This was a hasty decision. Matt thought as he shifted through space to the Solar Forge in the sky. Now I’ll have to spend a chunk of time fixing things. He spread out his form pumping Darkness out over the heavenly fixture of heat and light. A soft crunch later, the world below plunged into eternal night. Barring the advent of a powerful cultivation genius, the creatures of the dark would arrive within days. A few slices into the fabric of reality weakened the planet’s entire Crystal Wall structure allowing it to shine into the Mist like a beacon.

With that complete, Matt shifted through space into the dying planet’s atmosphere. He spread out once more, mimicking cloud cover, plunging the entire world into fathomless despair. The world was in the process of dying, but that didn’t mean it was completely dead.

In situations like this, it was typical for the remnant will of the dying planet to choose a champion. Watching such a personal struggle was a pastime of great enjoyment. It was like watching a soap opera with more blood, screams, and betrayal. A planet without light often hardened the hearts of those living upon it.

False methods of restoring light were not uncommon. Such things were mainly just manipulation of Soul Mana, in the end. Indeed pulling a shard of Light from the Planes had an abysmal chance of occurring. It was like drawing an SSR Card from a rigged gambling machine.

Matt rolled his eyes as a pillar of Light poured into existence, striking his cloud cover. Someone below had asked for help from a Pantheon of Light. A twist of will sealed the space worldwide, preventing the entry of any Divines. He couldn’t do more without drawing attention from the Higher Powers.

Darkness sank into the gaps in the Crystal Wall he’d created earlier, tuning the entire defensive structure. Now, instead of repulsing creatures of the dark, it was a massive beacon. Vampires were the first to locate the new world. They set up enclaves away from the pillar of Light.

Years flowed like water, but Matt paid little attention as the races of the dark arrived. His attention was on the Anomaly Central Time link. It was clear that even with his Sigil, the method wasn’t perfect. The number hadn’t ticked up at all, even with a century passing.

Go figure. Matt thought with annoyance. It was clear the Anomaly was interfering. He crushed the desire to push more power into the Sigil. The [Outsider] would not be pleased if he got into a pissing match. I must be content that the link exists at all. Small victories are better than defeat. Sometimes it is all I get.
