Cutting a deal with Eve took a small portion of time, but Wilson was most satisfied with the outcome. They had been looking for a way to outsource Vol for quite some time. The lightbulb was practical, but it constantly brought problems. Now those same problems were no longer its concern. They were Eve’s.
I can finally put the plan into motion to purge the upper layers of the Deeps. Wilson thought with glee watching Eve check through the contract terms with slow detail. If enough resources are extracted, I can heal more of my Core.
The potential for success made Wilson giddy on many layers of calculation. Even the Numbers favored the outcome, though too far less of a degree than it had hoped for. Still, success was a success, and healing was healing. This close to a potential windfall that would allow salvaging the disaster that almost obliterated it was a welcome turn of events.
Wilson's calculations slowed imperceptibly as it remembered the hateful invasion from the Deviant Core. It wasn’t the same as the one Matt Smith was known for killing, but it, like all the others had the same methods. Eliminating the invader and then purging everything had placed a massive burden on Wilson.
It was a little shock they had cracked under pressure.
Utilizing the Law of Contagion over his entire territory had pushed the cycling of mana past the breakpoint. Something as powerful as a Law was the only way to ensure a Deviant Core was dead. Such things were an integral part of the fabric of reality, lurking beneath the surface like a watery titan in the ocean.
I couldn’t even get the Deviant invader’s Core last time. Wilson thought, annoyed. I had to sell it to purchase the current realities I oversee now.
It was pure luck that the Divine Butcher’s sister landed in its lap. That fortuitous event moved it several thousand years ahead of schedule. Gaining the Deviant Core from the Darkness was a boon that Wilson took to heart. Where before it had been almost a facsimile of a System, now the functions were slowly coming back. Eventually, it could revamp the User Interface currently provided to reflect reality more accurately. The Stats could be reworked, and mana would cycle more effectively. That, in turn, would heal Wilson even faster.
It was a true marvel. They turned their full calculative force back toward Eve after she signed her contract portion. Wilson would ensure it reached Vol.
“There was a minor problem while you were gone,” Wilson said, taking the signed contract that Eve extended to them.
“Oh?” Eve asked, her eyes curious.
“Indeed, a high-Tier creature above the limit of Seven entered the world from the Daedric Doorway. I eliminated it easily without needing to pay that bloodsucker Dust.” Wilson replied in a comical tone.
He watched the Witch blink before shrugging as she said, “I’m off to do some experiments. Nothing reality breaking…probably.”
