Timeline

There has been some discussion about how the shorts work.

To clear confusion, I have attempted to lay down the mechanics behind the scenes.

I realized a rather significant error was that while I, the author, know that the time between Eve’s escape and arrival on the Prison Plane was lengthy, the readers did not.

I had assumed, in my idiocy, that the readers would understand that when Dust went to the closest location he could to contact Matt, it took a very long time.

Over several thousand years, even with Dust’s speed being eldritch.

This is nowhere in the story other than a brief excerpt that, at the time, I thought was clever. After having a read, my mum gave me the Look, you know, the one when you’ve been a right idiot but think you’ve been oh so clever.

Yes, that one.

So, I’ll add a few bits here and write a proper timeline that makes a wee bit more sense.

Matt: Matt and Earth, in general, are operating with Time Dilation relative to Eve. There is almost no chance, until they reunite, of the actions of one affecting the other except as distant echoes. For example, Matt might go to war, murder some divinities, etc. However, that will have little effect on Eve because of the present distance and time dilation effects.

This is due to quite a few things, but the main one is the Anomaly. It is a massive crystal with a titanic backstory, which comes into play much later in the story.

System: Although it is never stated, and I’ll fix that, it operates at all times and in all places under its umbrella. However, for sanity’s sake, I will only have shorts for the Past and Present regarding it. I am trying to leave clues in each short that describe the time relative to Eve, but I might fall short. Bear with me, please. I’m an AIP (Author in Progress).

Eve: Eve’s timeline is always the “Present” in the story. The story revolves around her actions, words, deeds, and so forth. She is my Main Character and the one I spend the most time plotting great acts of kindness and evil for my readers.

Kyo: Kyo’s shorts are set in the Future after Eve has left Tal Mor and the Prison Plane behind. She is forced to crash land on Kyo’s as-yet-unnamed(I think) planet. As many have learned in reading, she attempts to contact her brother on this planet in Kyo's past. It didn’t end well for civilization at all.

Sara: Sara’s shorts are set in the Past, which is confusing until you realize the time between Eve escaping and arriving on the Prison Plane is much longer than it appears when read. This is my fault, and I attempt to clarify it here. I will probably start dating the shorts and backdating when I have a solid timeline written on paper.

Hopefully, this has alleviated some confusion for my beloved readers!

Eve’s chapter for Saturday and the Friday short will be set together later today.
