Daily Thurs Short: Sara 04

Sara reclined in the luxurious bedroom attached to her office. The contract with the Blood Snakes had been lucrative. She didn’t know why they wanted Vampires and frankly didn’t care. With the support of Marco from the Wild Hunt and Victor from the Blood Snakes, she had moved upgraded from a local Power.

The order had gone out quietly that every Flock member who used Gem Shop services was to be smothered softly. Bodies would be fed to the Ooze pits maintained for garbage disposal at every location. It would take a month barely to reduce the Flock’s presence to almost nothing.

Marco and Victor will make sure their people take over the businesses involved with the Flock. Sara thought lazily from her bed. At that point, the dispute will be a full-blown war, but I couldn’t care less.

Sara had been rising in power in massive bursts, and it was clear her Lady had been drinking oceans of experience. She was only eighty percent of her mistress’s total capacity. However, that percentage was enough to rip the three Underlord gangs out root and branch.

The reason she hadn’t done that and still maintained the current façade was easy to understand.

There was always a bigger fish in the pond. She didn’t know how much her mistress planned to return depended on their connection. For that alone, Sara couldn’t take risks that would expose her without considering the costs. Besides, the Gem Shops provided plenty of soft power. Men and women, too, would say all sorts of things to impress their paramour. Her shops doubled as purveyors of information, not just flesh.

Sara had taken care to trace the trail of her Lady back through every method possible. The Aitmurn family had been poisoned with ruthless efficiency. Her mistress wasn’t around to attend to them, so she’d taken care of it. After a few short months, only the Snake Clan remained alive in the husk of the Rothschild Empire. All the other Clans died mysterious deaths leaving only the cold-blooded clan alive.

Her mother had quietly sold the shell to the Serpent Empire without remorse. That wasn’t what would be put in the history books, but everyone knew the winner wrote those. Sara hadn’t contacted her blood mother, and the Empire’s victory had been her birth mother's last act of kindness.

Sara’s steps were paved in the path of her Lady, and nothing could change that now. With every increase in power, there had been a corresponding tightening of the soul bond. She wasn’t sure she could even entertain the thought of resisting her mistress now.

Which is fine. I’m not a starry-eyed child offered power without understanding the costs. Sara thought, pulling a goblet of wine and a cup into her hands. I have the ability now that even the emperor’s heir would desire. So, what if I sold my soul for it?

It was time to cement the preparations and build the first Summoning circle.

No matter what stood in her mistress’s path, Sara knew it would crumble to dust.

Eve would return, and Sara would make sure she wasn't a poverty-stricken wretch when she did!
