TSOTH - Pages 31-36 (COMPLETE)

It's finished! Thanks again to everyone who followed this project! All that's left is to make the cover, I should post it very soon.

I'm definitely going to do a redesign on Rogues outfit for later stories. I'm not happy with the distribution of tones on her outfit. When I do a part 2, Mage is gonna be the Main character! I'm out of ideas of what to talk about in this post because I'm a little tired XD, but hey, I hope you like the story, and I'd love to hear what you think of it!

It's a dam fine inspiration.

Fran Franken

Spiritually I am a pupil of chainsaw manπŸ€ͺ

Leo Yoyoro

Cool, I just knew there was some chainsaw man in there.

Fran Franken

Anytime πŸ€™ I simply believe that gaining the full context of the characters and their lore is what truly makes a story so great. But you're right, the standard tentacle rape story was probably what version 1 would've been XD Also, some additional fun facts. The inspiration for both the smiling and crying heads were based on the comedy and tragedy masks of ancient Greek theatre. The smiling head's elongated triangular mouth on page 29 was based on a real-life fish known as the Pelican Eel. As for the tree head, its design was inspired by a mix of both the Darkness Devil from Chainsaw Man and the Behelit egg from Berserk.

Max

Oh wow, thank you for the in depth explanation, it's nice that Yoyoro has someone who's as big a fan as you. Yea that all checks out I like the explanation. It makes me think that if it was just the smiling head, then we would have gotten a more standard tentacle rape story.

This may be a little late, but if I recall correctly, I asked Yoyoro something similar with regards to why the Hydra's actions are the way they are. Back when he posted pages 27 -30, you're probably gonna have to scroll a little if you wanna see his exact words. But from what I can tell, we have seen 3 heads so far for chapter 1. The smiling head, the crying head, and the tree head. According to Yoyoro, each head has the ability to act independently from each other. However, they are all still linked via their thoughts and senses. Sorta like a hivemind. To quote Yoyoro: "Think of like how Disney's inside-out represents the different emotions of the same person, but in this case the emotions are an amalgamation of bad parts of the souls of the people that it previously consumed". With that being said, each head can and will act according to its motivations. For instance, the smiling head was the one that had been messing with both Cleric and Rogue for the majority of the beginning. Its main motivation was just out of malicious fun. The crying head is a little more straightforward, all it simply wishes to do is just subdue its prey without much trouble. Utilising its "Silent Scream" attack to mind break the target then proceeding to consume them. Not much is known about the tree head yet, apart from the fact that its song is what's causing all the surviving inhabitants to be inflicted with the amnesia/memory wipe effect. Like what you saw with Rogue and Mage at the end. But there is a limit to its intellect. While it may know how to effectively utilise its abilities, it in no way plans ahead before engaging its targets. So if you thought that the Hydra strategically planned to separate Cleric and Rogue at the locked gate, that unfortunately wasn't the case. The gate being locked was just some serious bad luck for our duo :( The Hydra simply prefers to use the element of surprise to subdue its victims. Very shock and awe. And that's basically all the information I know from Yoyoro. I hope that answers your question. I can't wait to see what Mage and the party will bring to the table in chapter 2.

Max

I hope to see more from this series/universe

Esher

Glad you like it! And thanks for the comment!

Leo Yoyoro

great comic, I love evry part of it.

Esher

Sounds exciting, I'm curious how you'll keep things from getting repetitive, although I'd still read the Hydra systematically wiping out the whole party. Now that you've expanded more on the setting, I'm curious: is there an in-universe reason why the hydra gets all touchy with its prey rather than just eating them straight up?

Fran Franken

Oooooh the Innkeeper gets to make a follow-up appearance? Nice, I really like her design it's so cute. So I guess "Camada 119" is just a random local? Huh those are pretty cool facts, all I remember about its growth is that it is simply born from the lies of the town/city it was found in. And as the more lies are told, the bigger it eventually gets. And I tried really hard to deduce what the 3rd head could be a reference to, but I got nothing. It looks like a fully grown but misshapen tree. What was your inspiration for it? Also since part 1 is finally over, I would like to ask, what song does the smiling Hydra know? It's clear that the crying Hydra has a silent scream that mind breaks its opponents, and the tree Hydra has the memory-altering/amnaesia song. But I'm still not sure what the smiling one's is.

Max

Nice, glad you like the new pages! And yeah that 34 came out better than I expected, with the broken memories and stuff. Really proud of her. As for the Innkeeper, im pretty sure that her one and only appereance was the first time i drew her. She will be a little bit important on part 2, so i wanted a excuse to draw her at least once here. As for all hydra heads, if im not mistaken the original creator for the monster mentioned that they could hear and see, but not from the holes in the face. The humanoid shape parts of that thing are just aesthetics, and i mean that in the sense that they are not very functional, and are more related to how the monster is born. Im pretty sure that the hydra dont need to breath too, even tho some heads seems to have a nose. That also means that it can probably see you even if the head is not directly looking at you.

Leo Yoyoro

Ayyyy, it's the man himself. Thank you so much for helping make this comic and script as great as it was. Can't wait to see what you and Yoyoro have planned for part 2 :D

Max

So awesome to see it come to a conclusion. Been a long journey!

Cool, I finally get to know what colour Rogue's hair is XD. That's great to hear, would love to see the 3 girls in action. Also, the fact that Rogue is still willing to come back after all the trauma she went through is crazy impressive. And the art in these last 6 pages, WAS JUST STELLAR!!! There were so many iconic shots in this. I loved how page 31 foreshadowed what the 3rd Hydra head looked like only to reveal how massive and eldritch looking it is on page 32. Also on page 34, when Rogue was suffering from the memory altering effects of the Hydra's song and watching her memory fragment and splinter was such a great visual. Additionally, I liked the little detail of how Mage still keeps the price tags on her clothes XD. These pages truly made for a great end to part 1, and I can't wait to see what you have in mind for part 2. So for my first couple of questions I would like to ask. The Inn Keeper, she looks oddly familiar. Is she the character that was partially drawn in page 4's PSD? The one labelled "Camada 119". Or is that just another town local? Also for the 3rd Hydra head. It is such a cool design, but does it possess the ability to see? Because it seems to only have mouths and hands for appendages, but no eyes.

Max

Glad you know that caught your attention! As for part two, im gonna do some storys first before returning to that , but it would happen like 1-2 weeks later after the end of part 1.

Leo Yoyoro

Thank you very much! Also yeah the cover is gonna be colored! Also yeah Barbarian and rogue will be back for part 2, but we would follow the pespective of the Mage, its what i meant. I've written some stuff for part two already, but I will focus on some other storys for now, take a break for the hydra.

Leo Yoyoro

What a fun conclusion, I wasn't really interested in this set when you first started but you quickly got me hooked. In particular, I loved the full shot on page 32 and Rogue's face at the bottom of page 34. I'm super excited for part 2. Is it going to be a direct continuation with the hydra or something else?

Fran Franken

WHAT A GREAT END TO PART 1!!! There is just so much to gush and ask about. But first I'd like to congratulate you on completing your very first fully fledged doujin. It had such great moments of suspense and atmos-fear XD, the characters and monsters really made the doujin what it was. It captured my attention from start to finish, and I truly look forward to what you have in store for part 2. I await in anticipation for the cover illustration reveal, will it be in color or the usual black and white? Also, Rogue is going to get a redesign huh? Can't wait to see how she'll turn out. So if Mage is gonna be the main character for part 2, does that mean Barbarian won't be tagging along for the ride? Or will she just be playing more of a supporting role?
