everyone in us cholesterol is high. that is known. its because of our foods yes but your levels can be exacerbated for many reasons liiike stress or if ur blood work was taken too soon after eating (supposed to be 8 to 12 hours). maya is vegetarian so her ldl will be low

Psyllium husk is a soluble fiber that can help lower cholesterol! I take it first thing in the morning with a lot of water. I get the organic one since there was a consumer report regarding some brands containing high lead levels.

I totally empathize when you mentioned that "sinking/drop in stomach" feeling you get when you feel the spiral coming on, and how reality is warped when you're in the midst of it. In all honesty I cannot say. I would have to do a full evaluation on someone. In my professional opinion I’ve never heard of stress itself being the sole cause of high cholesterol. It contributes, but even if you’re stressed working on healthier eating habits and an exercise routine can have a huge impact on your cholesterol. I recommend she see an RD 💕

Dietitian here, high LDL cholesterol is linked with diet- typically. Foods high in saturated fat cause high LDL cholesterol (fried foods, sweets, etc. just google it). Things that help lower LDL cholesterol are: Foods high in UNsaturated fat, fiber, low intake of saturated fat foods, and exercise.

QT, your OCD spiral story makes me feel so seen. I know that sounds dumb lol. Its literally to the T how mine have been. I used to bleach my fuckin hands bc washing wasn't enough. I know you've said in past episodes you hate medication. I just want to put out there that just the smallest dose of sertraline changed my life and made the spirals stop or simply lessened the severity. It's a medication I've taken during pregnancy and it's been researched for the past 50 years. I hope I'm not overstepping. QT, it’s not unusual for hypochondriacs (my grandma and two uncles) to react to personal tragedies like you did. I’ll suggest you try talking to a cardiologist so you can understand the implications of high cholesterol. It’s not something to take lightly but once you understand, it becomes less scary. Also, if the discovery was made by a general practitioner, they’ll not prescribe metabolic medicines unless you’re in immediate danger such as insulin/metformin for new diabetics; what they would do instead is strongly recommend a referral to a specialist.
