I have hypothyroidism and the overlap between the symptoms seems very similar (losing hair, hard to lose weight, etc.). I went to an endocrinologist (hormone doctor) and he was able to check me for both PCOS and my thyroid condition!

I was able to get a root canal on a wisdom tooth which usually isn't super easy/possible/done. I've had 2 total root canals with only local numbing, it's not too bad and all the dental work I've had done has made it super trivial for me.

At one point, the doctor told me maybe to go on Ozempic, but I ended up not needing it because my sugar levels got to a normal place. So they're definitely two different things, like others mentioned.

BUT i only got this info after i had to call them and be like so.... did my ultrasound results come in or? (which btw i had an external (abdominal) one which is a good option if you're not comfy/want a less invasive option for internal/vaginal stuff) they just straight up werent going to tell me bc there were no cysts? AND they then did nothing about it? when i saw my doctor she was like yeah they were all fine you just have pcos w out the cysts lots of women have it. ???? Also if anyone is curious, I now see a different doctor and she started me on metformin (like others said, NOT the same as ozempic) and it has helped quite a bit. I am losing weight but very slow and steady. like genuinely i've maybe lost 2kgs (4lbs) since starting and its been a couple months compared to my mum who is on ozempic (for diabetes) and is losing 1kg a week. But I also have not made any dietary changes mainly because I havent found i need do (i wasnt eating bad before) or exercise because i have CFS so unfortunately exercise is dangerous for me. I've also had 0 side effects from metformin. You also don't need to be on metformin lifelong if its for PCOS. Some people are but a lot arent. ok sorry for the long af comment lol

Why, why would they traumatize me back 2 back smh ;( I also swear to god the doctor said to me "We drew straws to see who was going to have to do this to ya" when they did the spike q tip, and they have to hold it for you to to keep it straight or something so I have this old ass doctor gripping my thang with his cold latex glove, horrible. I also had to get all 18 redone bc a different dentist said they were not done well enough 🙃

Ozempic will enhance the pancreas's ability to produce and release insulin, slow digestion, etc. because it is an analogue of the endogenous peptide "GLP-1," acting as an agonist of the glp-1 receptor. Metformin, however, mainly decreases both the livers production of glucose and the secretion of pituitary gland hormones that impair insulin sensitivity. Both of these drugs do have some similarity in the end result effect on the body, and they both have been used to treat PCOS, however Metformin is actually approved for the treatment for pcos and is considered the first line treatment in this case, as clinical trials are still ongoing for the use of Ozempic in pcos. Ozempic also has a MUCH greater side effect profile, and can cause gastroparesis (delayed gastric emptying,) among other side effects, which can lead to so many more complications like GERD and nutrient deficiencies. I hope this clears up any misconceptions, and sorry if it is confusing!

I know you’re trying to not eat so many carbs, but sometimes you just need something quick and filling. Lower blood sugar CAN aid in weight loss if you were diabetic/had consistently high blood sugar levels. But it is nothing like ozempic and friends. Also mayas dentist story is interesting…most dentists will not numb your whole mouth at once. It’s kind of a safety risk. Also about the gyno, I had a similar experience with a cardiologist too. He was using his practice basically to promote his own version of nutrisystem. Smh.

2024-12-05 01:17:24 +0000 UTCas a medical biller/coder i'm alwaysssss always skeptical of providers who "don't take insurance" because 9 times out of 10 the only reason they don't take insurance is because they know their services won't hold up on a claim for being "medically necessary". like the ultrasound without saline, the procedure and diagnosis codes for that (essentially the explanation as to why the service was necessary) don't really align with each other if there's no additional coding/documentation. those claims would deny and they wouldn't get their money and they'd have to bill the patient anyways, so why spend money hiring a biller or spend time on submitting claims (or even spend time contracting yourself with major networks!) when you could just cut out the middle man and bill patients directly? it's different when providers don't take YOUR specific insurance or they're extremely specialized but for a gyno? that's not such a highly specialized field to the point where there's any reason to not take insurance. and i only know this shit because i get paid to know it for 40 hours a week, it's NOT intuitive at all for someone not in this industry and it frustrates me to no end when doctors like this take advantage of patients who have no reason to doubt them.
