I do hate thinking about how 1) we’re creating so much space debris (shit we just leave in orbit that serves no purpose because it costs more to bring it back and dispose of it than to just leave it there) and 2) how we’re trying to turn space into a commercialized and militarized hellscape :)

In my first class in the field, Stars and Galaxies, my professor would teach us messed up facts about how out Sun will die or how the universe is expanding. Then he would always end the lecture with, 'And now you have to care about your homework due Friday, so don't go too far down that existential crisis!' It sucked lol

So the reaction that Maya has when space comes up is something you think you would not see at JPL/NASA but its more common than you think.

This is a rough calculation but at around 175,000 miles per second 1 year on earth would be about 120 days for someone on the ISS.
