The origin of Barbie: Lilli, also known as Bild-Lilli, is a discontinued West German comic strip created by Reinhard Beuthien for the tabloid newspaper Bild, appearing there from 1952 to 1961. The toy company Greiner & Hausser Gmbh released a fashion doll line of the same name in 1955, which lead Ruth Handler, the co-founder of American toy company Mattel, to launch a similar toyline named Barbie. Mattel acquired the rights to Lilli in 1964, and all the promotional and merchandising activities related to the character were discontinued since then.

2023-08-30 20:34:21 +0000 UTCThe thing about the bus stop scene that gets me every time is that Barbie has never seen an old woman, there are no “old” Barbie’s. For her first thought and thing to say to the woman to be “you’re beautiful” in a place where women are not given the grace of aging in piece without “losing value” is so powerful. And having the old woman’s response be affirming that she is beautiful and confident was doubly so.

Especially hearing the commentary afterwards from ppl on the right about how women are complaining too much and the patriarchy isn’t as bad as the movie makes it out to be

And no i dont mean grape juice i mean literally alcohol free wines in wine bottles. they make them for people who dont drink but still wanna have dinner parties.

But if I could make a suggestion (no pressure/obligation to actually do it y'all know best)- I understand it may not be possible, but it would be WIKKED if the backgrounds were darker. Nothing too elaborate even, but I am amongst those who fall asleep watching podcasts (WAI is one of the top tier late night podcasts) and the double white background makes it harder to drift off (FLASHBANG). I really don't wish to step on any toes so please ignore me if I inadvertently did! PS. Looking forward to the merch! 2023-08-30 06:36:05 +0000 UTCanother layer to the scene at the bus stop where barbie tells the elderly woman that she’s beautiful: in barbie land, no one ages. they all stay in their 20s/30s forever. that old woman is the first experience barbie’s ever had that isn’t with someone relatively young, and in a world that often just sees older people as ugly, barbie is able to see her as just a person who is unique, just like every barbie she knows. and the old lady is able to look past other people’s judgements and see her own beauty too. it’s kind of the introduction to a recurring theme explored throughout the film, which is how external approval affects our sense of self. i didn’t think about this until after the movie, but man when i realized it, it really got to me.

I thought the history of Barbie was cool as well. I did have the thought about the whole beauty standard thing when it came to the original design of the Barbie doll. I don't think it was the creators intention to confide it to one singular standard, but I do think it was just something that people weren't as "woke" about.

I am a tequila guy and more of a sipping tequila. For a cheap but smooth tequila Costco has the centenario añejo, probably one of the smoothest especially at the low price. -Wtf would anyone drink straight everclear? It’s 95% alcohol 🤢 my wife used it for limoncello this year but that’s it. -that’s crazy that maya licked the gum wall! I think QT would enjoy SLO, it’s changed quite a bit in the last 5-8 years but still a chill place to hang out in. -crazy that ppl are microexamining stories to catch you guys “lying” guess they got nothing better to do
