As an amateur comedian at an open mic you want to be relatable, dressing up actively works against that, regardless of gender. It is only when you are already famous, performing on a famous stage, and recording a special, that you can MAYBE get away with dressing nice.

He had mild success but tells me all the time I should do it because my sets on paper are hilarious. But I don't think I will. The "guy who is here every week" thing is so real though. We had a guy like that at the place my brother did stand up. He'd come in every week and do discord tier red pill jokes about society and get no laughs. Like. I seen him do his sets 3 times and every time was a bomb. Idk how he does it. I'd never set foot on stage again.
