Kate didn’t lift her head, her voice strained. “Please ... shut… up, Derek.”
But that grin on his face only grew wider. “Nah, can’t do that, superstar. This is way too entertaining.” He walked over, beer bottle clinking lightly in his hand. “You’re missing something, though.” Before she could even ask what, he placed the cold bottle square on her back, balancing it like some sadistic bartender.
“There,” he said with a mock-serious tone, stepping back like an artist admiring his masterpiece. “Little extra resistance training. You’re welcome.”
“What the fuck, Derek?” she spat, her arms wobbling so hard it was a miracle she hadn’t face-planted yet. “Get it off!”
“Oh, come on,” he said, laughing so hard he had to steady himself on the arm of the couch. “You should be thanking me. This is, like, advanced-level shit. You keep this up, and you’ll be bench-pressing cats by next week.”
