Well, that was a nice week with no real deadline... kinda.
It was a good feeling to just not be pushing pushing pushing for a week and nice to just pitter patter around a little. Got the anniversary content shored up and such. Thing did kind of accelerate the more the week went on, but it was a very nice start of the week.
I did eventually get it sorted out, couple of surprise late nights... even on the anniversary release night where it turned out it was way too hard and I had to write an entire hint system...
Of course there was another issue, but we'll go into that in a second.
The other thing that needed doing this week was finishing off the renders for the updates to the movie night, and that turned out to be a lot of stuff! 35-40 renders that are basically all multi layer composites... All this extra work for something which should all be invisible to you if I did it right. But that's what you get when you have a 5 girl scene where any/all of them can be pregnant.
I also included in a new option brought from one of the dreams where you can break out the watch again.
All up it's still technically a moderately large update, but as I say, most of that work should be invisible.
Now, that other thing.
Something has happened with renpy games and microsoft defender and it has started flagging these as false positives. It is not all renpy games, it is not all downloads, and it is not all peoples computers. What I do know is that all the downloads I have put up are safe (I knew it before but I spent a substantial amount of this week double checking... because that's something you double check anyway). Here is what I do know though.
- It does not effect every computer
- I am not the only developer effected by this
- This extends beyond Renpy games
- As far as I can tell, this effects every file on MEGA, even ones uploaded multiple years ago
It is caused
- Other download platforms are not autoflagged
It is probably caused by some windows environment variable causing a compiled file to have an invalid file extension during compiling of the game (these will be hidden inside another file, a lot of file types are actually just zip files by another name). This combined with some kind of microsoft defender update poking things just right... That may all sound like an insane conspiracy theory... but it's solid from a coding perspective, especially if you remember microsoft are letting an AI write their anti virus code for you, so you have no idea what it is actually doing.
So... what have I done about it? Well, after my endless computer scanning turned up nothing... We got to testing (thank you evil). That's when I discovered the above information, and I fiddled with my dev variables so that it no longer triggered things and I am now also hosting files on Pixel Drain. I don't know if this is the best mirror, but I'll sort that out over time. Ideally this will all just go away on the next defender update (As I said, this is way more than a just me thing). But I've also been meaning to host to mirrors anyway.
What do you have to do? Preferably nothing. I hear you can still download stuff if you save it to a usb stick instead of your hard drive. Under no circumstances should this make you turn off your virus protection, you have it for a reason. And if problems persist... please tell me. I'm interested in giving you all a good experience and if stuff starts breaking, I want to fix it.
So now that all that is said, happy halloween. Play the Anniversary trivia game. And I am going to have a little nap. Thank you very much
Love Nunu
