Updates (June events, next video, general)
Added 2025-05-07 16:00:22 +0000 UTCAlright, trying something new in the accountability space. We have some updates on the Movie Night and Pilot Watch Polls. As well as the date of the next Book Club meeting for our solo read Piranesi.
In the poll, y’all picked Recession Comedy and I held back picking everything from the “Disaster Movie” era lineup because none of us deserve it. The poll will be up tomorrow and the dates for each event will be:
Watch and Commentary will be Joy Luck Club at 7 pm EST on May 9th. Bring your tissues and emotional baggage.
Movie Night will be May 25th at 7 pm EST and Pilot Watch will be May 21st at 7 pm EST, once the movies/TV shows are chosen it’ll be announced and reminders will go out.
Book Club for Piranesi will be on June 22nd a Sunday and then we will have the poll for our next series of books. If you have any recommendations (besides Elric ;) put them in the chat.
As for what is happening behind the scenes—ahh, the joys of having a sick parent in a terrible and uncertain economy. Without getting into a lot of details the biggest things that have been weighing heavily are my father’s slow decline and the fact that a member of my family has been detained by ICE and is up for deportation.
It is so easy to feel paranoid at certain times about the state of the world and I often do find myself doom scrolling so I’m trying to do diversify my watch, but the truth remains that we live in terrifying times. Globally. Carving out moments of joy in those times is important because reality is a motherfucker and it will humble you quickly. Never assume you are too above the treats to your neighbors. We share space.
Workwise, to the delight of Scoob and myself, I have thrown myself into a very intense Trello board. I have mapped out the next few months of content for here, the main channel, and Nebula. With everything going on economically, I have been trying to be intentional with my work and to start stepping on the gas of my writing. The ideas in my head have been circulating so heavily and I know that I need to just throw my whole ass into it lol
My long-term projects are also making some progress.
The first is Outlander and I’m very excited about how it is coming together. Going to Scotland for research helped solidify aspects of the show I already had an inkling of. I got to talk to someone who worked on the show (now giving me two sources behind the scenes—hey look at me) and got some books on Scottish history that weren’t available in the States. Going to Inverness, Edinburgh, and Glasgow has added a texture to my research that solidified why doing this kind of travel research is important to understanding a place. (And also makes me even more distressed that Diana Gabaldon didn't visit Scotland before writing the first book)
I hope y’all will enjoy it when it is finished. It is shaping up to be the longest video I’ve ever made. 2+ hours.
Until then, while waiting for new videos I have a few other places that make up content.
(1) Open Tabs, the fanfiction podcast I co-host with TappyToeClaws and Amy the Amazon. Very unhinged and NSFW
(2) I was invited to speak about the HP fandom following JKR’s latest transphobia on the ICYMI podcast and finally
(3) I have been horrible with promoting this well, but I am a co-host of the PBS Books Reader's Club and we have a bunch of interviews up now.
Thank you all for sticking with me through a dry April, but May is bringing the showers the previous month didn’t have.
Best always,
Princess
